Negotiations
Negotiation: Finding Solutions and Resolving Conflict
Dr. Anthony Townsend
Lyndsay Whitaker
Final Exam-Relating class to my own work environment

Negotiation: How to Apply

I am currently employed as a loan administration manager with Wells Fargo Real Estate Tax. Negotiations are everywhere in my daily environment. I am always working with other managers and team members to find workable solutions amongst everyone’s opinions and interests. These are people that I will continue to work with on a daily basis so the goal in every negotiation I am involved with is to end with a win/win compromise of some sort to keep a good relationship with them because down the road more will continue to come up as I advance in my career with these same individuals. From negotiating on a new team member to hire and how much to bring them on for, to delivering an end of year performance plan to each person on my team to as simple as allocating out the daily work each day to my team members this class plays into everything I do with my role and future roles I may be part of with Wells Fargo. Currently in my work environment I am in the process of building a brand new team by expanding on the current plan in process. I am going to bring to the work place some key ideas and information that I collected through this negotiation course that I just completed. I was hired on as a new manager for a mail support team for the tax department. The process was currently being done by each group with in the tax group on an individual basis. It came to the attention of some upper management that this process was not efficient and mail that customers were sending into us was getting lost or misplaced. In order to better this process I was brought on to work with a project team to create a new mail processing proposal for our tax department that I would then in turn propose to upper management for approval to implement out. It would involve coming up with a whole new staffing model, budget

The story began when my friend’s dad, Thomas, had back taxes due since 2007. Thomas had gone to at least twelve different tax firms before he was referred to me. Thomas took the information back to his house that I had gave him and asked for his son’ advice on how my services where and how to proceed. Thomas and his son looked over websites and books and determined what would be the best price and came to a conclusion I was the cheapest. Thomas took all the information that he and his son had gathered and went back to the firm. Upon arriving, Thomas thought it clearly one last time.…

First negotiations in this class showed me that I was not prepared well for them. It was difficult for me, because I was not sure if I was negotiating in the right way or not. I think that when you have real negotiations you have more time to do your homework, to set up your goals and results which you want to get. It is always easier when you know your target, points which you can lose or gain. In my case, I realized how to do it after the third lesson when we tried to negotiate about multiple issues. Negotiations are not simple things. Sometimes you need to lose in some moments to gain in main one. Now I can see it, I can feel when it is important something for a person or not. In negotiations you always have a chance to know it. If somebody gives up very quickly it means that this issue or moment does not play a great role for him. Moreover, in the beginning of this course I thought that I am a…

Everybody negotiates on a regular basis. People negotiate at work, at home, with friends, family, and coworkers. According to Answers.com (2008), “Negotiation is the process of two individuals or groups reaching joint agreement about differing needs or ideas” (para.19). Oftentimes people negotiate and are unaware they are negotiating. For some people, negotiating appears easy, but other people view the process of negotiation as a conflict (Lewicki, Saunders, & Barry, 2006). Analyzing the roles of communication and personality in negotiation and how they contribute or detract from the negotiations will be reviewed. Included will be an example of when I have participated in a negotiation situation.…

When I finally turned 16 and received my license I was beyond excited to start driving. I had been looking forward to that day for roughly all 16 years of my existence. However, there was only one problem – I did not have a car to drive. Well, at least not a car of my own. Luckily, this was an easy fix as my dad had agreed to drive me around town to visit the local car dealerships in hopes that I would find the perfect car to purchase as my very own.…
