There are a lot of people in this world, some can be described as extraordinary, or simply extra ordinary. You view people differently than everyone else in this world, and how you let them mold you is exclusive and unique to you and you only. I prepared for this moment every day for hours for a year and a half, I’d wake up at 6 a.m. to run with my oxygen limiting mask and run from my house to the courthouse and back. On the day of my trip I felt overly prepared and didn’t experience any unforeseen circumstances due to my emphasized training. At one point I even had to double back for someone because someone had forgotten their pack down at the start line of the hike. I’d never worked so hard in my life to achieve anything as monumental as the climb to the top, but I was proud of myself and the knowledge that Nicki would be proud as well motivated me more than

The profile was a nice read and had great insight into Nicki's career, so in case you've missed it I took the liberty to highlight the best parts for you below!…

Many people would choose a family member or at least someone they personally know when it comes to talking about influential people in their life. For me, I have many people who have influenced me in my 17 years, but I want to talk about Tina Fey and how she has contributed to my development as a person. Many know Tina Fey as a comedian on Saturday Night Live; however, she is also a writer, actress, and very successful woman. I have been told that my sense of humor and personality resembles hers, and that is the greatest compliment I have ever received. For a good period of time, I have admired Tina Fey and that admiration has been a large influence in my life. Tina Fey, despite her multiple awards and recognitions, has not always been famous…

One such initiative that has resulted because of her work is the Campaign to End the New Jim Crow (CENJC). This initiative was formed in Harlem, New York during October of 2011 and is a coalition of several racial injustice prevention groups. The group’s mission is to raise awareness and about mass incarceration and institutional racism, with the goal of building a grassroots, bottom-up movement that challenges the racist ideologies that have helped produce these conditions (CENJC, 2014). The groups vision is to foster a "movement that is committed to ending mass incarceration entirely and to push for a fundamental shift from a punitive model to a healing and transformative model of justice--a model that does not criminalize people for public health problems like drug addiction and does not criminalize poverty" (CENJC, 2014). Since it’s beginning, the group has developed and implemented several outreach programs, committed to advocacy and uncovered numerous incidents of racial injustice within the local area, pursuing their investigation and demanding responsibility (CENJC, 2014). While there is much work to do, the CENJC is collaborating with similar groups throughout the country to address and remedy the disease of mass incarceration and racial justice…

I have had multiple influential people in my life, but I'm not going to say my parents or a great teacher, but rather someone closer to my age. Andrew Calton, a good friend and great influence. Andrew helped me “get back on my feet” when I was scared to kayak. I would stay on the lake and not go on rivers because I had no confidence in myself. Late at night he and Jack White, another good friend, came to my cabin at camp and told me there was a spot on a trip and he wanted me to go. I went on the trip and the fact that they wanted me to go boosted my confidence. We went on harder rivers I had never been on and I did not swim, or bail out of by boat once.…

When you think of someone influential in your life it’s usually someone very close to you. To a child it’s usually a superhero or one of their parents. To me this is not the case. Kate Janke, a music teacher and theatre arts instructor at the high school of Park Center, is one individual who has changed me as a person, and made me who I am today. Ms. Janke’s qualities of directing in the theatre program, teaching the subject of music, and having an open, down to earth type of personality helped shape me to be who I am today.…

    Modern Day Feminism

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a powerful leader in the modern day feminist movement, once said in a speech presented at TEDxEuston, We Should All Be Feminists, “Some people ask: ‘Why the word feminist? Why not just say you are a believer in human rights, or something like that?’ Because that would be dishonest. Feminism is, of course, part of human rights in general—but to choose to use the vague expression human rights is to deny the specific and particular problem of gender. It would be a way of pretending that it was not women who have, for centuries, been excluded. It would be a way of denying that the problem of gender targets women.” The actions of the F1 generation of feminist women who sparked the women's rights…
