My First Cruise
Like it was yesterday I remember my first vacation on a cruise. My Dad and I went on a three- day long cruise to The Bahamas. I had never been on a cruise, so it was a new experience for me. We needed to be in Tampa for our departure, so we drove the two hours from Orlando, Florida to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My Dad and I used this time to talk, make plans for the trip and think about our upcoming adventures on the cruise.
We left while the sun was fully up and the sky was blue with fluffy white clouds; there was not a sign of rain anywhere. We walked on the pier to where we had to board our cruise ship. Many cruise ships were docked. Some were coming in while others were waiting to depart.
The boarding of cruise ships takes as long as boarding an airplane. First, my father and I had to check in and then go to a boarding area. Then, we had to go through customs and check our luggage that was not seen again until we arrived at our cabin, where it was waiting for us. From there, everyone was to meet at the emergency exits to hear the proper procedures to follow in case of an emergency. After the brief introduction, the passengers were free to roam. Of course, everyone went on deck to see the boat leave and wave goodbye to those seeing us off on a safe journey. Everyone was waving, taking pictures, shouting goodbyes, and having fun.
The picture was surreal when we were on deck looking down at the water as the boat cut through the waves. We were speeding to our destination. Everyone was cheering and shouting as we came near another cruise ship sailing to a destination unknown. I was so happy that I had a smile from ear to ear. As we arrived at the Bahamas, the sights were unbelievable. The clear tropical waters and the rich white sand were something out of this world. My dad thought it would be a good idea if we rented some jet skis; I agreed. Unfortunately, I needed a driver’s

In order to compensate for the debt and reduce costs, Mr. Arison decided to reduce the speed of the ship and the amount of stops it made through its voyage. As a result, Mr. Arison added additional on-board activities for passengers such as a disco, casino, movie theater, etc. Quickly afterwards the ship was known as the “Fun Ship”. Little did he know that this cost reduction tactic would transform the company’s marketing strategy for Carnival Cruise Lines and the cruise industry as a whole.…

It has been roughly five hundred and forty seven days since I have stepped foot of the Catalina Sea Boat. I ran my hand down the Metal railing as I strided onto the island, I would call my home for the next three weeks. I stood at the end of the dock with one bag around my shoulder and another in hand. I felt the warmth of the sun and the ocean breeze that I dearly long for now. I stopped for a moment to soak in the nature around me and breath in the ocean smell. I continued on and walked with the rest of my group onto the dirt. Which soon turned into irregular and scratchy grass as we walked to our cabins.…

The summer of 2014, my family and I went to Ocean City for an overnight stay. We arrived in Ocean City and checked into our hotel rooms. Then, we drove down to the beach. We listen to music, snapped pictures and ate delicious food. My oldest son was playing football and Frisby with his cousin. I spent my time near the water playing in the sand. I wrote the word baby in the sand and took a picture laying beside it. Out of nowhere, it became windy. The umbrella flew away multiple times. The sand was blowing all over the place. We watch the sunset and left the beach. We stopped for dinner and went back to our hotel. I was four months pregnant in this picture.…

When I first came into this class I was somewhat egocentric I thought that my broad views and beliefs on pop culture could have not been different than others, so I thought. However, as the class went on, and I read the articles which many of them I found very interesting. And the critical thinking pages of our hand book I clearly needed to learn more about pop culture in our society and what role it plays. The other thing I did not know was the more a person questions pop culture the more reason you can get out of it.…

I headed to my first class which just so happened to be my favorite subject, English. The hallways were very wide but when filled with students I felt like I had to shove my way through just to get to my locker. The lockers were a mixture between Gray and purple. The school colors were supposed to be purple and silver but there was no way that these lockers could be considered. I took a look at the little piece of paper that the lady in the office had given me and tried out the combination on my locker. It took me about five minutes to open it and after struggling for that long I was a little irritated so when it did open, it flew open and slammed into the locker next to mine. I held my breath and hoped that nobody had noticed. I took a long deep breath and slowly opened my eyes again. Luckily I was still standing alone and nobody around was looking at me. I put my extra books and notebooks into the locker and and closed it as quietly as I could.…

Being out in the middle of the ocean on a “magical” cruise ship is my definition of perfection. Disney World is known to be the most magical place in this world but that also holds true with the Disney Cruise Line. I have personally been on five cruises, and all have been with Disney, and I have never enjoyed myself more than being on those boats. Disney Cruise Line has a total of four ships and each have their own distinctive design, with beautiful gold swirls on the sides. Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and the Disney Fantasy were all created specifically with families in mind. There is no other cruise line I would rather be on than the Disney. Over the years, many things have changed about a cruise, but I have never had a bad experience. Each trip on a Disney cruise ship has been an…

Cruises are thought to be big and fancy, with fabulous meals and decorations, a wide range of people all looking to see gorgeous tropical islands and have a wonderful staff to accompany them all on their journey. Although in Oates’ story it is the complete opposite. Oates reveals to us that it is a rundown ship destined for the dry docks, with rooms that are falsely depicted in the brochures. The Ariel is one disaster after another with its toilets that malfunction or those that are out of order all together, or the loud throbbing of the engine that keeps everyone awake at night. The rude service, improperly cooked meals along with the high prices on beverages and cigarettes add to the disaster that is the Ariel. As the captain states “the reported sightings of rodents, cockroaches, and other vermin on board the ship…” (Oates 374) slow just how poorly it was taken care of. The Ariel is far from being a typical cruise…
