DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER.

The saying ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ goes a very long way; I learnt my lesson the hard way. I happened to be a very judgmental teenager and I lost many friends that way. Even before speaking with or having any contact with an individual, I judged them based on what I saw on the outside. My friends, the ones who stuck with me, always told me that one of those days, I would be taught a valuable lesson; and boy they were correct. I remember the day as if it were yesterday. It was just a regular boring and sunny day in my neighbourhood and I was sitting on my front porch with some friends when I glimpsed at a shiny black Mercedes parking at the house next door. Not only was I judgmental, but I was as curious as could be. When the fancy car came to a stop, a girl came out the car. My eyes widened and a smirk came over my face.
“Look at her, “I exclaimed to my friends. “ Who exactly does she think she is driving around in some fancy car?”
“Laura, what have we told you about saying such things, don’t you know when to stop?” One of my friends cautioned.
I paid no mind to what they were telling me. In my mind I was thinking judging the girl and I’ve never seen or spoken to her. I thought that she looked arrogant, rude and was one of those rich girls from town. Now that I’m remembering this situation, I cannot believe how stupid and foolish I was, judging that girl whose name I never knew. My friends got up and left me there since they claimed to not want to have anything to do with me at that point. That got me upset.
Then, as they were leaving, I remember the girl trotting her tiny feet towards my porch with her long, black and silky hair bobbing along with her. She had this cheery smile on her face and that smile of hers literally showed all thirty-two teeth. I wondered why she was coming over by me with her gleeful spirit. I got up off my porch stairs, wanting to head for the door before she came, but my feet were not

Make good decisions. Do the right thing, no matter who is watching. Those words have been repeated and instilled in my mind since I was a young child. My parents always harped on doing the right thing, and making good choices, because some decisions made at an early age can follow you into adulthood. Unfortunately, sometimes making a wrong decision only helps you to learn from the mistake. When I was 15 years old, my friend *Alyssa Brown (Pseudonym) was raped. She was my best friend and someone I care deeply about. We played volleyball together on the same team, had breakfast at the diner every Sunday, and watched movies in my basement every weekend. Like any relationship, we had our differences. At that age, many of my friends were maturing at dissimilar rates, and it was confusing to me some of the changes that were happening to their attitudes and opinions. Alyssa had an older sister *Lindsey, who was 19 at the time, and who wasn’t particularly the best behaved; she had been arrested a few times and needless to say didn’t surround herself with the best company. Alyssa couldn’t help who her sister brought around the house, and neither could I—although now I wish I could have.…

Have you ever made an error of judgment at some point in your life? Did you ever think about the mistakes you have made through misperceptions and wish that somehow you could change it? Well, I am sure you have, maybe even more than once in your lifetime. Often individuals make many errors of judgment without even realizing that they do. The reason they do not realize that they do is because they frequently do not pay attention to their error of judgment until they look back on it or rethink about it.…
