My Dutch-Indonesian Life

I consider my hyphenated identity to be an important part of who I am, which is Dutch-Indonesian. This is a distinct group of people from the islands of Indonesia, situated across the equator. Although the Portuguese were the first Europeans to arrive in the area, the Dutch settled and stayed in Indonesia for roughly 300 years.

The Dutch were there a long time and created a unique people referred to as Dutch-Indonesians. Being Dutch-Indonesian means each group influenced each other for over 300 years. My father was born in Jakarta and he and his immediate family consider them selves Dutch-Indonesian. Although my mother’s family was from Europe, I consider self mostly Dutch-Indonesian. Most of my family is on my dad’s side. We are a unique group of people, being tall and slim with brown eyes and hair.

It is fun to see my cousins from my dad’s family. Some of my dad’s cousins look different from each other. Their eye colors can be bright blue, green, hazel as well as brown. One of my dad’s cousins likes to tell a story about growing up in her family with blonde hair and green eyes. Visitors would frequently ask, “Why is the neighbor’s kid always here?”

When we visit them I feel like I belong there. It is fun to see my cousins and basically I give them back the warmth they show me. I ask questions about what they do. I also play intensive word games with them. I usually have so much fun I don’t realize I am learning at the same time. I use that good feeling and good manners wherever I go.

My dad’s dad worked for a large manufacturing company and my dad’s mom worked in the operating room in Danbury Hospital. One of dad’s cousin’s was an athlete in high school as he was also. A cousin of his is a nurse and there are a couple of teachers. Two of his second cousins teach in public schools and one is a policeman in the Town of

For a while they felt like strangers to me because I haven’t spent time with them or seen them in a couple of years. But after a while it felt like they never left because I got to know them…

The Relatives Came is the story of a family living in Virginia who visits their relatives in another state. This book appeals to an extensive range of children because its plot focuses on a large family living together throughout the summer and having to share a small space. Nevertheless, the initial discomfort later turns into a memorable experience as family members come closer together. The language style used in the book is age-appropriate and the characters are realistic without being over-exaggerated. Another observation is about the illustrations of the book that naturally connects with the story of the book and the reality of family’s reunions.…

Imagine this, you are enjoying the Christmas holiday at your grandparents with your aunts, uncles, and cousins. You think nothing of it because it is a completely normal thing to do. This is the first year all of my cousins were together in about three years. I introduced my boyfriend, Devin, to my other cousins he hadn’t met yet. As we were talking, I grabbed a plate of snacks when my five year old cousin walks up to me. She did not say anything just stared at me as she rocked back and forth and clapped her hands. I smiled down at her and asked if she was hungry. Still she just looked at me smiling, while clapping her hands. Instinctively I grab a chip and some dip off of my plate and feed it to her.…

My cousins and I would always be together, Literally 24/7. Sometimes we would fight and i look back and remember and i think it's the funniest thing in the world, we still bring our little arguments up to this day to have a real good laugh, but having so many different personalities around made my life so much fun. If we weren't outside playing with the water hose getting in trouble with our great grandmother for wasting water or playing tag or Hide And Go Seek, We’d be inside watching cartoons while our Aunts were having extremely loud Conversations in the kitchen and the Men were outside talking about football or something. My favorite memory of my childhood was when i would get to go to my grandmother's house every Saturday with my close family around to eat either Barbacoa or homemade Menudo.…

Of course I have greeted them, everybody had to greet them because that’s what everybody does when it comes to greeting. I went upstairs, My mom was unloading the suitcases. She was giving my cousins the clothes that we don’t really use and other used clothes that my dad bought from his school. It was a lot, there were sweaters, jackets, t-shirts, pants, shoes that looked used like new. My cousins really enjoyed these clothes even though they didn’t notice they were used, but they still loved it. My mom bought my cousin who was 12 years old a new pair of soccer shoes because he was in a soccer team and they pretty much fit his size. He really enjoyed. My other cousin was trying to fit the Converse shoes He wanted to take all the shoes, but my mom told him to pick only what you really like and the rest of the shoes would be for your brothers. I started laughing, so he decided to pick the Converse shoes. After my cousins picked up the clothes, my mom, my siblings and I were in the living room, we had a little talk about how was the border line , and other family histories. I wasn’t really paying attention until somehow my cousins came up to me and asked me how to says the words in English. I teach them how to say the words correctly, it seems that they can’t pronounce the words. I ask them “ doesn’t the teacher teach you English class?” my cousin said “ they do, but they don’t teach us…

In this paper, I will investigate the "Problem of Personal Identity". The particular scenario I will respond to is: "Suppose that sometime in the future a crazy scientist creates a perfect clone of you. The clone has a qualitatively identical body to yours and has the same memories as you as well as same voice, character, and so on. How would yo convince a court of law that the clone is not really you? What theory of personal identity would help you to make your case" (Rauhut, 2011, p. 125)? First I will clarify key terms, and then I will apply those terms in my analysis of the question. Then I will close out by reflecting on my conclusion and some insights I gained about the Problem of Personal Identity.…
