music concert report
On Friday night, November 22th, a great concert was held again in the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre of Brock University. This concert was performed by four young, energetic, and talent musicians: Vera Alekseeva play a violin, Austin Hitchcock plays a French horn, and Karin Di Bella plays piano. When I entered the theatre, my eyes were immediately caught by a beautiful piano on the stage under the bright light. Some students were taking pictures of the instruments. Before the concert start, the musicians were briefly introduced themselves and descript about the pieces they going to play. The audiences were exciting and interesting for the concert. It was a perfect opportunity to experience such a wide variety of music.
Claude Debussy’s piece Allegro Vivo from the Sonata for violin and piano give me impress journey. They can be classified as Classical era. It has a ternary form, which is A-B-A. In allegro, it has a narrow range with treble, and the music is delightful with a fast tempo. It has a basic tune but embellished in different ways such as string instruments play a syncopated melody. Each melody has its own distinctive contour. This one has an arch-shape contour. In larghetto, the melody is basically followed the first movement. Theme is a recognizable tune that occurs several times in a piece. It is used as a musical landmark. Compared with the allegro, it has an intermediate tempo. Harmony is simultaneous blending of different pitches. It is formed to a consonance because pitches blend easily together. In terms of allegretto, form refers to how music is organized. It has a quite fast tempo. The rhythm is rigoroso. After the triplet from the piano, the theme is repeated again. At the end of the movement, it has a homophony form, which the piano takes the lead. Those characteristics traits that make Debussy’s work distinguishable from others.
Johannes Brahms’s “Finale, Allegro con brio” is played by a French horn, violin and piano. Generally speaking, Allegro

The second piece I am going to discuss is the Symphony No.2 in D Minor, Op. 36 composed by Ludwig van Beethoven(1770-1827). It was in the Classical period, and the genre of it is Symphony because of it had four movements. The first movement is in the Adagio molto form, the second movement is in the Larghetto form, the third movement is in the Scherzo: Allegro form which breaks the rule of most of symphonies, and the fourth movement is in the Allegro molto form. The length of the work is about thirty-five minutes and…

I made a right decision by going to the Phat Cat Swinger show at Hip Kitty Jazz and Fondue in Claremont on Friday, February 3, 2012. The show was more than just impressive! The venue was an upper club and lounge with retro decoration that could bring you back to the jazz era. The stage was neat, simple and organized. There were people of all ages. Just like me, they came there to enjoy the music and danced the night away.…

I attended The Works of Thomas Root on Tuesday, March 24th. It featured the Weber State University wind ensemble and symphonic band as well as the WSU Band Alumni. There were many pieces conducted and created by Thomas Root. Most pieces were still unpublished but they were wonderful nonetheless. He also had pieces that were dedicated to people that he had come to meet throughout his life, and a piece was dedicated to his own mother.…

I went to Mr. O’Neal’s second jazz concert today, which took place at a little bit far but very nice jazz studio in San Pedro. There was a beautiful neighborhood nearby, and it was the first time I’ve ever been to San Pedro. I was kind of tired since I went there right after I got off from work, but I still be excited and couldn’t wait for the wonderful music. My friends and I had a seat before the concern really started, it was a warm and sweet little room. Then I looked at the little stage in front where Mr. O’Neal’s going to perform later, it was just fit to everything. I like the design of the stage: they had colorful lighting on five separate pieces pure white background , a new classic piano, a bright blue jazz drum which I like the best, and a set of red African drum, they really made me look forward to the show. My friend also ordered the pizza the Mr. O’Neal recommended, and we were ready to enjoy the concert!…

On October 19, 2013 I sought out to listen to some classical music for my review for class. It was a pleasure to have found the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Oviedo, FL, a part of St. Luke’s concert series of 2013-14 that has been held in the last nineteen years here in Oviedo, FL. This free event that’s held each year at St. Luke church holds about three hundred people in there sanctuary, everything in the décor speak to your imagination Lutheran church. It was very nice it reminded me of a small concert hall. The orchestra fill the whole area were the choir usually sit. Christopher Wilkins, he conductor along within a full orchestra and Rimma Bergeron–Langlois the violinist, who all played four great suites from the genius of Georges Bizet, the piece from L’Arlesienne, Carmen suite, and Carmen fantasies, and Symphony in C’ that took you back in time. This classical music from the romantic era was breath taking.…

I attended Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons concert on Sunday April 17, 2011 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church performed by the SCC chamber orchestra. Vivaldi was a baroque composer and the Four Seasons is considered to be a great masterwork in all Western Art. The Four Seasons is a series of four concertos; Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Each season contains 3 movements and was composed in 1725, in a set of 12 concertos entitled “Il cimento dell’armonia e dell’inventione” (The test of Harmony and Invention). Each concerto is in the distinct form of fast-slow-fast movements. The Four Seasons is a set of four solo concertos for violin, string orchestra and basso continuo. The texture of each concerto resembles each of the presented season. This piece by Vivaldi is considered program music. Program music is instrumental music associated with a story, scene, poem, or idea that is often found in the romantic period.…

I attended the fall concert for the Northwest’s Symphony Orchestra on the night of November 13, 2012 at HMLA. They played a number of pieces including a piece with a soloist from a tremendous flute player. Personally, sitting through this concert though was torture from a musical standpoint. Their first piece started right away not together in the brass section and didn’t improve through the night. Once the strings section came in, very soon they weren’t together either along with their bowing being off as well. This could easily be put on the fact that there was hardly any eye contact with the conductor from the players. The dynamics were inexistent in the pieces; I heard a difference in the volume of their playing once or twice in all their pieces. Even the tone quality wasn’t all that impressive as frequently the violins would squeak or the brass wavering in their notes. They really didn’t have much coming from them all night. Coming from a high school Orchestra, I felt the skill level not only didn’t improve, but actually lowered. One of the pieces they played, we played my freshman year in high school and they still struggled with that piece.…

Our wind ensemble band received an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall, and I had the honor of playing 1st chair bassoon! Such a humbling experience to play in a venue where so many exceptionally gifted artists from all genres of music have performed. I felt so fortunate to have the opportunity to see the theater from my vantage point on the stage and got chills as we played. At the close of our performance, we received a standing ovation and my heart raced faster than ever before. While in New York, we also saw Les Miserable. Although I played in the pit orchestra for some years in school, I had never seen a live show on Broadway. Watching from an audience’s perspective showed me how each part; acting, singing, and orchestra compliment each other to become one cohesive and highly entertaining performance. Another highlight of our trip happened quite by accident while touring the city when we discovered the famed jazz club, Birdland, just a few blocks from our hotel. We spoke to our Music Director, and he arranged a visit to the club the following night. Walking into that small dimly lit club seemed to transport us to a place I had only seen in movies. An air of admiration filled the club as those incredibly talented jazz artists shared their craft in an improvisational way. This experience served to intensify my love of jazz and music as a…
