Mothers Love
Mother’s Love There are many types of love: affectionate, tough, sexual, desirable, and so many others. These different feelings of love can be beneficial or harmful to the person receiving a certain type of love. Some say tough love can make a person turn cold-hearted and resentful to others but from my experience it can make you preserve and think positive. The love I received from my mother is tough love yet affectionate at time; only when appropriate. My mother’s tough love is shown through her strictness and her strong character but at the same time showing concern as well as saving me from mistakes. My mother’s powerful voice gives away her strictness; it’s loud and very serious yet not like she is yelling at you. Her voice sounds demanding and threatening which causes chills to go down your spine. When she speaks to me, I can differentiate between her sweet voice and her demanding one. When she uses her demanding voice I already know not to talk back or refuse her request. My mother’s stern look can also be another appearance that can show her strictness. I would describe the look as a death glare because her look is focused and determined which is why I would not dare to look back at her with a glare. The only time my mother uses these two methods is when she is trying to teach me a lesson or giving me a lecture about something I should do. Strictness plays a part in tough love which is why my mom has these traits to show me I could be better or work harder. My mom’s tough love also involves her strong character which can be shown with her bossy attitude. Like she always say, “Whatever I say goes” meaning she is the man of the house and if you don’t like it then leave. My mom’s attitude plays a big part in her strong character because she doesn’t care what others think or say. Another thing that helps show her strong character is her knowledge of vocabulary. My mother is not a college graduate but she has a colorful vocabulary since she reads a lot of books. The knowledge she received from reading novels had helped her develop a stronger character since she uses words to get an answer. Her character has helped her to show me that I need to stand up for myself and be positive. Despite her strictness and strong character, my mother does show that she cares for me. Even through her powerful voice I can hint that there is some type of concern for my well being. I know when my mom’s concern about me when she gives me a frown. It is not like a puppy pout face or a disappointed frown, it’s a “what happened mija” frown. Another sign of concern is the hurt in her eyes which is when she flinches. I can tell she is concern about me because she flinches whenever I tell her I want to talk to her. Also her voice turns more into a whisper when she is concern about me. I know tough love can be harsh and make children behave in bad ways but in my case that did not happen. My mother’s tough love has turned me into a caring, sweet, and unique person which is why I respect my mom’s love. I assume that many others may disagree with me but I have proof that my mom’s tough love has benefited me rather than hurt me. I respect and love my mother’s powerful voice, her famous death glare, her bossy attitude, and her colorful vocabulary. Most of all I admire her frowns and when her eyes flinch because that’s how I reassure myself that my mother cares for me.

Being raised in the rough streets of Caloocan City where the Filipino version of the mafia and street gangsters used to roam the streets, this contributed to her developing her no-nonsense demeanor and aggressive personality. She served both as the mother and father figure for me in the absence of my dad and my morals and values are in my opinion, are of a high standard due to the strict teachings and lessons that my mom has blessed me…

    Parenthood Interview

One connection was the challenges of parenthood. My mom faced challenges of health issues, maintaining routines, and feeling like a failure as a parent at times. She never mentioned the word love in her interview. She mentioned it when speaking about my grandfather but as far as love for her children she never once used the word. I’m not sure if she didn’t say the word because she feels like I should already know but missing that part of attachment there is an emotional tie missing. With that being said I would say her general parenting style Authoritarian. Her responsiveness was low, but her demandingness was high. The phrase, “because I said so” was used often in our household and the expectation for maturity and compliance in her rules were of the utmost…

I had heard talk of a mother's love for her child before the day I had my own. I'd heard stories of a mother that gives her life to save her child's. I'd seen that kind love expressed by my own mother everyday. I guess, I never thought it to be much different then the love a person feels for any other immediate family member. Boy, was I wrong. It's not that I don't love my other family unconditionally and entirely, but a mother's love is undoubtably incomparable to any other.…

Every morning, I would feel irritated with my house being too loud and too noisy as the sounds of the pans and pots from the kitchen would echo in my ears, causing me to wake up. My mother never forgets to prepare breakfast for me despite leaving for work at dawn and returns home at dusk. When I feel thirsty while I am at school, there is always a full bottle of water inside of my backpack to keep me feeling hydrated.
