Most Valuable Thing
In today's society, people steal, cheat, gamble, kill, and do just about everything for money and material things. We overestimate the power of money, but in the end the things we most value are not store bought. The one thing that I value the most that money can't buy is my family because they always support me, guide me through life, and love me unconditionally.

I came home one day, lay down on my bed and sulked. I had had a terrible day at school and was very upset. My mom came in and asked what was wrong, but I didn't want to talk about it. My mom could tell that I was dismayed, so she went out of her way to go out and rent my favorite movie. The whole family sat around the television, watching a movie, eating popcorn and having an enjoyable time. Just being with my family that night made me feel so much better. I know that no matter what problems life throws at me, I can always count on my family for support and solace.

Furthermore, I greatly cherish my family because the guide me through the paths of life through their religious and moral guidance. My parents have been Christians since birth and my dad is a pastor at our church. Because of this, they have greatly influenced me to go to church, pray and read The Bible. Also, they have always taught me to do the right thing and not be negatively influenced by the behavior of others, for example, in going to parties or drinking. Their guidance has definitely molded me into the person that I am today.

I also greatly treasure the love that my family and I share. My family demonstrates their love by the many diverse things they do. For instance, the way my mom always comes into my room and kisses me before I go to sleep, or how my sister always helps me with my English homework, or how my dad gets me exactly the present I want for my birthday, or even by my little brother saying that I look nice in my new dress. It's the everyday little things that they do that demonstrate their love for me. Without their love,

My family defines who I am as a person because they are my backbone and the reason why I strive to do my best. My mother’s family has sheltered me ever since I was born they were there for me when I had nobody. Generally I was unwanted by my other side of family, but my mother’s family never neglected me, they have made my life very easy and guided. In my understanding the reason why I said they are my backbone is because as a child( Baby) I had nothing and I was seriously ill but they never abounded me. My grandparents also went far distance into the village to find a cure to my illness and my aunties & uncle used their dorm room bed sheet as a cloth for me. This is why I appreciate everything in my life because I was a nobody as a baby.…

Though, just because they stick by your side, does not mean it is in a positive manner. It may mean they are just doing their job, following the rest of society to create an image of the perfect family, which may never exist. Though in order to maintain a healthy family, you must respect their beliefs and values.…

Another reason why family is important to my life is because of the knowledge I am exposed to. Nothing is more exhilarating to me than listening to wisdom or just encouraging words that seem to mean nothing to me at first glance then being able to apply them later in life. Lastly, my most important reason is because music has made my relationship with God closer than ever, because of everything I have gained through family, I am confident I’m going in the right direction with my life. I have finally found my passion for helping…

My grandfather passed away and it sent my family and i into a turmoil. It was so sudden and fast we knew we had to prepare for our future without him. That day was the first day ever that my whole family and I sat in silence. No conversations, No cracking jokes or laughter, just silence. It was a day of sadness, but as the strong family we are, we lifted each other up and we accepted it and we made a promise to each other that we would never leave each other's sides. That day made me realize how much our family is united and this day put our strength to the test and we didn't let it break us. It actually brought us even…

I come from a very conservative catholic family in Peru. In my country families tend to be really closed, but mine is specially united. When I think of family I do not think only of my parents, but rather on them, my grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. Since I was born I have lived with my parents in my grandparents house, which has had a huge influence on me. This is because the fact of living with elder people made be involved always in deep intelectual conversations with people that are older than me, that is what developed and propelled my intelectual curiosity. Also, I do not have siblings, however I am so close to my cousins that I might call them as if they were. They have influence me as a person by not letting me be too immerse…

My family may not always express our love with the simple words of “I love you”, but the actions and the small things they say motivate me to become a better person and to keep working harder. For those who I am not close with who show me love and admiration, it makes me happy knowing that somewhere out there, there is someone who appreciates me for who I am and what I do. Lastly for love with a significant other, this is a love where it hurts and feels the best for most people. People feel happiness, excitement, joy, sadness, pain, burden, and so much more with this type of love. A feeling of betrayal and pain, like in the poem, “She has almost, killed me with, love for that boy”.…

Have you ever wondered who would be there for you if something tragic happened? When something bad happens to you, you think all of your friends are going to be there right next to you. I unfortunetaly learned the hard way that is not the case. I did learn that my family will be there no matter what happens in my life. Parents are there to put food on the table, take care of the kids, and make sure they are doing the best they can for their child/children. I believe that family loves you no matter what: if you mess up, get injured, basically anything that happens to you, you can go to your family for help.…

Honestly, I have not really accomplished too much in my life but there is one achievement for which I received an award that depicts the effort and devotion I exerted into wrestling. Last year I was voted the most valuable junior varsity wrestler by my teammates and I received a trophy to honor my outstanding season. It is not a spectacular trophy. Rather, its value comes from a more personal sentiment, being a reminder that hard work and determination is the key to accomplishing any goals, mild or arduous. In my perspective, it is more an icon of my failure, with a hint of success. I understand that trophies normally do not represent someone's failures. However, I realized that defeat is the quickest path to victory only after my second wrestling season had concluded because I recognized that continuously losing prepared me more than anything for my later matches. That is why I think of those failures and thank them when I look at my trophy. Now, my most prized possession sits proud on my bedside table, serving as a personal memento of my two-step journey as a wrestler.…
