1.1

1.2 The potential effects that the residents can experience in the work setting are prejudice and discrimination. Prejudice happens when society lacks education and the understanding of different cultures and how society looks at it being socially excluded. Prejudice begins by making assumptions of a certain client group i.e. people with learning disabilities and mental issues are put into a certain box, another example is an adult with schizophrenia maybe thought to be a serial killer this type of interpretation causes stigma. Other barriers which effects equality and inclusion within own area in the work setting are: • Unsafe environment - not being accessible to all cliental i.e. un -accessible building, narrow doorways, absence of lifts or accessible toilets • Social exclusion - due to different race, beliefs, disability, sexual orientation • Gender to gender identity- same sex relationships not being excepted by the age group we are looking after due to being frowned upon in their era • Communication, Language difference • Activities - should be planned on the basis that some people may need additional support to overcome the barriers they face, barriers are those things that prevent or make access to a service more difficult for certain groups and individuals i.e. physical disability or sensory impairment. • Cultural barriers - not taking into account of spiritual or diet needs of an individual.

2.1 Equality is ensuring individuals are treated fairly and equally and no less favourably specific to their needs including areas of race, gender, disability, religion or beliefs, sexual orientation and age. Promoting equality should remove discrimination in all the affirmed areas. The attitude and approach towards the provision of care for individuals are entitled to be treated on an equal basis at all times, however I need to be aware that some individuals from
