Michael Oher's The Blind Side

Based on the true story of Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher, The Blind side opens with footage of the monumental moment when quarterback Joe Theismann got sacked by Lawrence Taylor, turning the offensive tackle into one of the highest paying positions in football but ending Theismann’s career. If you are not a football fan, The Blind Side is about Michael following in Taylor’s footsteps, but more so about how his adoption into the Tuohy family got him they’re to becoming a professional football player.
Michael also known as “Big Mike”, played by Quinton Aaron, is pretty much homeless when he meets Leigh Anne Tuohy who is played by Sandra Bullock. She finds him walking the streets in the rain, her caring tendencies kick right in and she invites him into her home. Taking into account that she just let a complete stranger, a black teenager nonetheless into her home with
Initially Leigh Anne comes across as a feisty mother with a strict agenda, but just as Michael goes through a complete renovation, so does she. This story paints Bullock’s Leigh Anne Tuohy as a tough-as-nails Southern belle who acts as Oher’s left tackle in life, shielding him from the racist whisperings of the country-club set and a dim high-school coach who doesn’t know how to communicate with him. By the end of the film Leigh Anne maintains the stick-to-itiveness she utilizes to change Michael’s life and keep her own family together, but sheds her tough exterior and absorbs what their journey has revealed to her about herself. This is what makes the story unique. It’s not just about a rich woman being charitable to a poor boy or the rise of an unlikely athlete; it’s about the transformation of a family.
