Macy's Loss Case Study
INTRODUCTION:

This case involves the suspect stealing merchandise from the Macy’s Store in violation of PC 459.5(a)-Shoplifting.

LOCATION DESCRIPTION:

This incident took place at the Macy’s Store, which is a large business located at 401 S. Lake Avenue. LOSS/RECOVERED:

• Clothing Loss/Recovered: $169.19 (see attached receipt)
INVESTIGATION:

On 03-29-17 at 1920 hours, I was dispatched to the Macy’s Store regarding a female being detained by Macy’s Loss Prevention Officers for theft. Upon my arrival, I met with Target Loss Prevention Officer Vanessa Aranda, who advised me of the following information in summary:

Aranda was monitoring video surveillance and saw Suspect Fanny Huang on the first floor handbag department, concealing store merchandise into her blue plastic bag. Aranda saw that Huang began to walk to the east exit doors with the concealed store

Huang understood her rights by saying, “Yes.” I asked Huang to speak with me about the incident. Huang waived her rights and agreed to speak with me. Huang told me the following information in summary:
Prior to Huang entering the Macy’s Store, she decided to steal clothing for her daughter Emily Huang, NFD. Huang admitted to having money is her possession but wanted to save it for rent. Huang was on the first floor and placed the store merchandise into her blue plastic bag.
Huang walked past the cash register without paying for the concealed items. Huang decided she was going to pay for the concealed items and walked back into the Macy’s Store. Huang was then contacted inside of the store by Loss Prevention Officer Aranda. Huang was escorted into the loss prevention office with the stolen property.
