Life Shaping Experience
Life Shaping Experience More often than not motorcycle safety should be a major concern for riders and should be learned and practiced prior to the operation of any motorcycle. Motorcycle safety is a very important consideration not only to the operator but also for other individuals when sharing the road and should not be learned through adverse experiences. The Proper use of a D.O.T., Department of Transportation, approved helmet insures that the possibility of serious head injuries or death can be greatly reduced. Current statistics, from 2008, from The Center For Disease Control @ www.cdc.gov.org state that “A Proven Safety Measure. Helmets save motorcycle riders' lives. Helmets reduce the risk of head injury by 69%. In a motorcycle …show more content…
In 2008, helmets saved over 1,800 riders' lives, but about 800 more lives could have been saved if all riders had worn helmets.”
While operating a motorcycle one warm early summer evening I was involved in a traffic collision with a local elderly couple driving an earlier model 1970’s Cadillac. Not only was this Cadillac very large it was also very heavy. The gentleman that was driving was not paying very close attention as he continued straight through the very busy intersection from a left only turn lane. As I approached the intersection from the opposite direction I became aware that this monstrous chuck, of fast moving steel, was not turning nor was it slowing down. I decided it was best to smash on my breaks and discontinue my left hand turn attempt. This I believe is what saved my life that night. My bike straightened

We went cruising around the stomping grounds of El Toro California because it seemed like the thing to do after one of us had cheated death and could still talk to the other. As we cruised we meditated on and came to the conclusion of motorcycle helmets and how they will be a part of both of our lives from now on. We talked about how it was not luck having escaped serious injury or perhaps even death due to this accident. We both agreed that it was simple physics that attributed to not having collided with any other objects during the actual event. Having agreed, that remaining friends was something that we both wanted and that riding bikes with our girlfriends was also something that we wanted to continue doing, we bought helmets for ourselves and our

“WHOA WHOA WHOA THIS IS BALONEY MAN!” that is something I say whenever I am frustrated. People have always told me sometimes the best way to learn something is through failure. People value things they have accomplished differently. Often the people whom are naturally adept at things do not realize how much of a struggle it can be for others. Many times when people have told me that if you are going to fall, fall forward. Do not let your insecurities, doubts, and pride get in the way of improving yourself. In brief, there can always be a way to improve yourself.…

Always wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. Although California state law only requires riders under 18 to wear a helmet, certain parts of California, including El Cerrito, require all bicyclists to wear helmets. Even if you are not required by law to wear a helmet, wearing one can greatly reduce your chances of suffering a serious injury if you are involved in a crash.…

Friday, October 24th was the day I almost died. I got in a life-threatening car accident. My seatbelt saved my life. If I didn’t have my seatbelt on when I wrecked I would be dead even with medical attention. I swerved to prevent a wreck between the black suv, the other car involved in the accident at fault, and myself by swerving. Swerving may not have been the best idea because I lost control of the car and ended up, upside down in a ditch with a completely missing window, a caved in roof that would have collapsed on my head if I was a tiny bit taller, a cracked all over windshield, a demolished side mirror barley attached to the car, a lot of dents, out of place tires, bits of glass inside the car, and broken inside mirrors.…

When I was four years old my parents bought me my first dirt bike. Riding dirt bikes has always been a part of my life. I started on a JR 50 and it’s a very small bike and after working my way up on bikes I'm now on a TTR 250. At first I was always scared to move on to a bigger bike, but I felt comfortable for the first time when I moved up to the TTR 250. Then a few years ago, I was outside riding my dirt bike and my family was watching me. I told them that I didn't need any gear on because I wasn't going to do anything dangerous and so I had no helmet on and no chest protector, I was only in a t-shirt and shorts. While I was on my bike I went to take off on a jump and when I did I hit my break right before I went off the jump because I had a moment of panic and hesitated. I was going too fast to stop right away, so I still went off the jump but landed sideways. Once I landed, the bike rolled three times and threw me off. I blacked out for a couple seconds and once I woke up, I was in so much pain and screaming for my…

I know that you have suffered with addictions, and that you suffered as a child when your parents were both addicts also. To answer your question, yes, I am a life coach and I can help. I was driving back to Orlando from Miami with a friend after a hectic day. It was twilight and had been drizzling all day and I was half asleep as I was running on only a few hours of sleep from the previous night when suddenly I was awoken by vibrations of my tires on the ‘cat’s eyes’ which are on the turnpike road. Behold, my Camry had drifted off the road and my car was heading to the direction of oncoming traffic. In a frantic effort to avoid a head-on collision which I thought would have been ghastly, I tried desperately to steer my car back onto the road. By this time, I had lost total control of my steering wheel and seemed to be controlled by the car. The car skidded on the slippery road and hit the front wheels of an 18-wheeler that had been driving next to us. On impact, the car flipped over and went under the truck. I saw my whole life flashed past in front of me. I was screaming and calling on God to come to our rescue. I thought the truck was going to run us over but somehow the rear wheels of the truck forced our car from underneath it.…

I prepared to the fullest extent. Knee pads, helmet, elbow pads, the whole nine yards. I was ready. As I stepped out of house into the bright sunshine of midday I heard a voice. “You ready buddy?” I heard my uncle call. I nodded in response “Yes sir!” “Well let’s get to it then” he replied. He wheeled the cherry red bicycle from the side of the house into the empty driveway. “Hop on” he said. I did as I was told. I was a nervous wreck as I climbed onto the two wheeled wonder that stood before me. The leather from the seat was of course extremely hot from the heat of the sun and scorched my leg as I sat down. I guess my anxiety showed because my uncle said “Don’t worry bud. I got you.” The voice which was meant to be reassuring did nothing to calm me. “Well let’s start then. Go ahead peddle now.” I began to peddle on his command. The wind blowing on my face was alluring. I wanted to go faster. I sped up, while my uncle still followed behind. “Ok I’m going to let go now. Don’t worry you’ll be fine” he said. I wasn’t really paying attention to him when he spoke. All I was focused on was enjoying the ride. Immediately after he let go however, the ride became terrifying. The bike that felt so secure before now began to wobble and shake underneath me. I attempted to adjust my weight in an effort to stabilize the bike which lead to more disaster. I fell down immediately luckily landing on grass instead of concrete. “Ah!” I screamed as I fell. The bike landed on top of me constructing my leg. My uncle immediately came running over to see if I was alright. “It’s alright. It’s part of learning to ride a bike” he said. Again this voice was meant to be comforting but, it didn’t help at all. My uncle lifted the bike off of me and helped me up. “Your pants and shirt might have a couple grass stains but that’s alright.” “Why did I fall?” I asked clueless on how to properly ride a bicycle. “Because you didn’t keep the bike balanced enough.” He said. I looked…

As I pull my motorcycle out of the garage, I can't help but grin from ear to ear to see the bright, blue metallic paint glisten in the morning daylight. With the birds singing their songs and the cool morning breeze flowing through the opening of my shirt, I think nothing other then to climb aboard, insert my key, and turn my wrist to the right. I gently push my ignition switch and “BAM!”, I am greeted by and instantaneous head rattling roar “BUM-BUM-BUM-BUM-BUM” of the engine. Sitting there dosing off in my own world looking into the sky watching the clouds pass by. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, taking in the potent aroma of 93-octane fuel. As my bike is warming up I jolt back towards my porch steps, dipping and dodging overhanging branches, as if I was running through a forest, to see all but this white and blue glistening ball of protection, my helmet. Yanking my helmet off the porch, I feel the soft leather on the inside, while my thumb runs against the smooth, glossy texture of the outside. Running back to my bike like a kid on Christmas, I aggressively jerk the straps of my helmet apart, placing it on the top of my head and pulling the helmet into position. The leather padding within squeezes my…

    Lesson in Life

Last August I was in a bad motorcycle accident that has ultimately changed my life. I had never been on a motorcycle before so a friend of mine asked if I wanted to take a ride on his with him. We rode through the country roads, and it was a thrilling experience! It started to get dark, so we had decided to head on our way back home. Only going about fifty miles per hour, a fox appeared on our right and started running alongside of us. We then decided to slow down and come to a stop, but before we could, the fox jumped right out in front of the bike and we hit it, which ejected me off the bike. One should always be aware of your surroundings and in this case, wild animals near roads. If we had seen the fox sooner we could have scared it off somehow or perhaps come to a complete stop. Another lesson I learned was to always wear a helmet on any bike. I was wearing a helmet, which only caused my skull to fracture and my brain to hemorrhage. I later learned, had I not been wearing a helmet, I could have possibly been a vegetable the rest of my life or even dead. When I had got to the hospital I was unconscious, and woke up three days later in the Intensive Care Unit. I was confused, trying to figure out where I was, and why I had a neck brace on, a tube through my nose, bandages on the right side of my body, and heart monitors all over my body. The doctors then told me that they had to run a lot of tests on me, and my body was shutting down because of the place in my brain that was hemorrhaging behind my fractured skull. This was just the start of the struggles I would have to face in the near future. I had many questions, but the doctor then told me I had road rash from the crash, which left me with three to four layers of skin missing on parts of the right side of my body. He continued to tell me that the impact from my face hitting the pavement caused my brain to collide with my skull, causing it…

One night, I and my family were returning home from a party which was in the outskirts of the city. We stopped at a railway line crossing because a train was approaching so the way was closed by a safety bar. The gateman was in the control room. It had been some time that the train had not arrived, so two men thought of crossing the bar with their motorcycle. As they were crossing the bar, people warned them but they paid no heed. No sooner had they crossed the bar than they heard the horn of the train and then people started shouting at them that the train was approaching. The two men ran to save their life leaving their motorcycle on the track. As the train knocked down the motorcycle, there was total deafness for a moment and the whole motorcycle shattered into pieces. No one of the two men got hurt but only the pieces of their motorcycle were left. The train had slowed down but did not stop. On that day I learned that it is better to wait for few minutes than to risk one’s life and property.…

About 8 years ago a memorable accident happened to me. As a high school student I couldn’t be more than excited to wait for the weekend. I got home that Friday after school and got ready for the night; it was the monthly relationship celebration with my boyfriend, so I had to look amazing. I left home at around 7 pm, everything was fine, and I was driving down Interstate 40 near exit 132 in my white Chevrolet-Blazer listening to music. I was anxious to know what surprise my boyfriend had for me, which restaurant we would go to celebrate, and what gift he had for me. Maybe I was driving a little bit too fast due to my excitement, when all sudden it felt like…
