Letter of Advice on Communication Dear Dick and Jane,
I am honored that you would seek my advice on communication in your relationship. There are many components to good communication, many think that good communication comes naturally. The fact that we have been communicating all of our lives does not mean that we do it well. (Sole, K, 2011 ch1.1). Communication is complex, it requires many skills and you must be willing to not only practice these, but also continue learning to improve these. There can be many issues while learning to communicate effectively. In order to help you in your quest for knowledge I will go over a few important things I think you should know about interpersonal communication. This advice should help you in your lives together. When it comes to a healthy relationship, effective communication is the cornerstone on which you build it. If you cannot communicate properly, it will have effects in your personal life. When it comes to relationships, effective communication is the most important skill that one can learn. Explain principles and misconceptions in effective interpersonal communications
It is important to realize why we communicate. We communicate for a reason. The primary goal of communication is to share meaning and to connect with other people. Understanding these human needs and communication purposes is essential to success as a communicator. (Sole, 2011) There are many purposes for communicating. One of the most basic purposes is to meet personal needs. Humans are social animals; we need to interact with one another. Another purpose is to learn about yourself and others, this is a process that you must continue well into your relationship, I will provide you advice on how to do this. The most important purpose in your case is to build and maintain relationships. Effective communication is the glue that will hold your relationship

Sometimes we underestimate the importance of communication. In relationships between two people, they find themselves in a place of comfort and familiarity. This causes one to think that because they are close and they can finish each other sentences and understand each other better then anyone else, life is perfect and there will never be any need to work on how to communicate. This façade can cause conflict and mask that fact that their communication is poor.…

Effective communication is key to making any relationship work. Communication can be verbal (speaking), as well as non-verbal (facial expressions, body language, etc.), and can dictate how compatible two people are, and how long a relationship may last. Communicating includes expressing emotions, interaction, touch and others that dictate how the relationship between two people will develop. Being able to open up to your partner, and covey your feelings allows for a better understanding, and greater rapport which are all important. Effective communication can be directly connected to Reiss’s wheel theory of love, and the four concepts that are part of the marriage market endogamy, exogamy, homogamy and heterogamy all of which can help explain fundamentals of relationships, as well as the different types.…

Lack of communication is the root cause for most relationships problems. Communication is the key foundation in a relationship. Without its presence or absence, it affects the physical health. When communication is deprived, we would have no sense of ourselves. Communication enables us to survive and it has a major impact on all relationships. Without communication, a relationship has no chance of surviving its prime. To make communication work, each partner must be willing to ignore distractions and really focus on the other person. Communicating problems with a spouse, friend or family member is the easiest and most efficient way to keep a long lasting and healthy relationship. In a relationship, communication is based on trust, considering your significant other’s point of view, do not point blame, listening, and taking criticism gracefully. Embracing your significant other’s point of view is a good step towards having a healthy relationship. Being one-sided will hinder and cause major conflict to the relationship, causing it to be broken. In addition, another problem that arises is accusations being thrown around without knowing really what is true or not, and then it leads to mistrust. Pointing blame in any situation is not healthy in the relationship; if you take time to hear out the other point of view, maybe an agreement could come about to help resolve the issues on mutual terms. In addition, when someone is criticizing you, it is very easy to become defensive. It is important to listen to what the other person has to say, keep an open mind, and improve on it.…

Communication can be defined as the interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information (Communication, n.d.). When done properly this exchange of ideas supports and enhances the flow of new concepts, visions, and emotions. However, when there is a breakdown of communication it gives rise to confusion, judgment, and hurt feelings. Miscommunication is capable of causing unnecessary obstacles in many types of relationships such as friendships, working associations, and particularly in intimate affairs. Close interaction, like personal companionship, thrives on good communication to grow and prosper.
