Kevlar
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this project paper is to highlight the chemistry and science of the very curious material: Kevlar®. Our aim is to create a very informative piece of writing that can be of reference to our project subject, when in need.
Upon taking up this project we conducted some very superficial research initially. Our research led us to believe that Kevlar® is a rather well known material that has been used in bullet proof vests for the last couple of decades. In addition to this, we came to the conclusion that Kevlar® is also a material that has the potential to be used in various applications as well.
We plan to explore these applications as we go on with this project.
To carry on with the project, we have divided certain areas of research among ourselves.
Hence, this project will shed light on the following aspects of Kevlar®:

Source
Industrial Manufacture Method
Chemical Bonding/ Structure
Physical Properties
Applications

From this point onwards, the material you read will be the product of extensive research conducted on material that is based on the internet, other research papers, magazines, books and e-books. We sincerely hope that you find this paper as enjoyable as it is informative.

SOURCE
Kevlar® is an artificial material and therefore, cannot be found occurring in nature.
Therefore, the raw materials those are required to make it have to be synthesized in a chemical laboratory. Subsequently, when discussing about its “source”, we have to talk about how it was discovered. Kevlar® was a chance discovery that happened at DuPont® headquarters in Wilmington,
Delaware. At the time, the automotive industry had begun and was in full swing. Manufacturers were looking for strong, heat resistant materials that can be integrated into tires. Back then, steel was the primary material that was used for this purpose. However, since steel was expensive,
DuPont® assigned a Polish-American chemist

The purpose of this scientific poster is to examine 2 different types of liquid body armour. Liquid body armour is protective clothing with liquid chemicals designed to strengthen it to absorb and/or deflect slashing, stabbing and penetrating attacks by weapons. The poster will discuss two different liquid used to strengthen kevlar (modern armour material). The first is a colloid of silicon dioxide particles suspended in polyethylene oxide. this liquid is a Shear thickening fluid which hardens on impact. the second liquid used is a magnetorheological (MR) fluid. MR fluids are oils that are filled with iron particles and can change its viscosity to a solid state when a magnetic field is applied to it. The third section of the poster…
