Jell-O Dissolves Lab Report
Jell-O Lab

Guiding Question: Are some laundry detergents better than others?

Purpose: We intend to test if the cost of a detergent affects its quality but putting 3 drops of Jell-O into 25mL of Jell-O and examining how much of the Jell-O dissolves.

Hypothesis: If the cost of the detergent increases, then the amount of Jell-O dissolved will increase by 0.3 cm.

Materials/Equipments: * 4-1mL Pipettes * 5cm long standard drinking straw with a diameter of .6cm. * Jell-O brand gelatin in lime * Insulated pad * 5-10mL of distilled water * A clear, flat, metric ruler * 1 pair of standard cutting scissors * 1 blank printer paper * 1 Crucible Tongs * 1 medium point black or blue sharpie * 2 1L Beaker * Hot plate *

Place the lids back on the dishes and match up the line on the base of the dish as with the line on the lid. 32. With your sharpie still uncapped, label above and to the right of each well, 1, 2, 3, or 4. Do not repeat numbers on a single petri dish. Do this to each of your dishes. 33. Now, take one petri dish, placing it on your paper and let the numbers face right side up. Along the bottom of the lid, write ‘Gain-A’. This label will be used to remember what the dish is containing. And place that dish to the side, holding the petri dish properly. 34. Take another dish that is unlabeled and place it on your paper, holding the petri dish by its sides to prevent from melting the jello. And along the bottom of the lid write ‘Ecos-H’. This again will be used to remember what the dish is containing. Now place this dish to the side, holding the petri dish the proper way. 35. Take another dish that is unlabeled and place it on your paper, holding the petri dish by its sides to prevent from melting the jello. And along the bottom of the lid write ‘Tide-G’. This will be used to remember what the dish is containing. Place this dish to the side, holding the petri dish the proper

Procedure: We started this lab on May 12, 2014. Using a permanent marker on the bottom of the dish, we divided it into 4 sections. We labeled the sections, W (water), A (alcohol), S (soap), and HP (hydrogen peroxide). Then, we labeled the perimeter of our dish with our initials and class period. Kyra rubbed her fingers across the surface of the table for 30 seconds (you can also use the bottom of your shoes, the door knob, etc.) Then, Christine lifted the lid off of the petri dish so that Kyra could gently rub her finger across the entire surface of agar. We were careful not to puncture the agar. Then, we replaced the lid. We wet one disc in each liquid using the forceps (shaking excess liquid off disk), and then placed the disc on the agar in the middle of the appropriate section. Soon, we closed the lid. Afterwards, we turned the agar dish into our teacher for incubation.…

The yellow pod experimented to discover what happens when you put gummy bears in different types of water for one day. The yellow pod put gummy bears in a beaker filled with salt water and another container filled with tap water. The data collected shows that the tap water made the gummy bear grow faster than salt water and the gummy bear weighed 2.7 grams more when soaked in tap water compared to salt water. The tap water bear also grew 10 centimeters in height more than the salt water gummy bear. Also, the tap water bear’s leg fell off during the experiment. The hypothesis predicted that both water would make the gummy bears shrink, but the salt would make it shrink more. Based on the data collected, no further experiments will be needed.…
