“Jeffrey Dahmer”

Jeffrey Dahmer is a well known cannibalistic American serial killer and sex offender that murdered 17 young men. There are many theories in which drove him to do such horrendous mass murder. The three main factors in which played part of those killings are alcohol, sexual fantasies, and abandonment. However, out of those 3 choices sexual fantasies played the biggest role in killing.

He began drinking a mass of alcohol during high school and created many problems for him. To shape Jeffrey up, his dad enrolled him in the army. He was an outstanding soldier, however due to alcoholism Jeffrey was sent home. Jeffrey would drink heavily to not feel remorse before

Alcohol confuses the brain making them reckless and violent, which causes the crimes. Long-term drinking can cause permanent brain damage, mental illness, and alcohol dependence. Binge drinking makes you lose your inhibitions and affects your judgement. People confuses alcohol thinking it helps coping, yet actually alcohol increases the range of mental health problems including depression, anxiety, risk-taking behaviour, and personality disorders.

Abandonment was a factor because nurture can be used to improve positive traits and diminish the effect of negative traits. Certain genetic factors may cause risks to a particular illness, but the probability that they develop that illness depends on the environment (nurture). Habits of parents, friends, or a partner, might also be significant factors to the development of an addiction. Being abandoned can cause lack of trust in others, fearing the departure of someone else

The Cerebral Cortex’s function are able to analyze sensory data, perform memory functions, learn new information, form thoughts and make decisions. All his thoughts of sexual fantasies end up making decisions of killing, eating, raping, and dismembering his victims. Another part of the brain that may have a determinant is the Reticular formation or pons which controls arousal. Having to experience what it feels like to have sex exactly how you wanted it may have played a part in why he continued to kill.

Some may say that Alcohol was the biggest part of why he killed, however that could not be more wrong. They would say alcohol drove him away from people having being isolated and aided him from feeling remorse from killing. What they fail to realize is because of these sexual fantasies is what drove him away socially. When he became less social he started drinking. You see ever since he was 16 he had already had thoughts of raping people while they are unconscious, yet he only started acting on his thoughts when he had the chance to do

His mother reported having a difficult pregnancy; he was a bubbly happy kid. But he was always sick he had ear infections and throat infections. But then at the age of two his family moved to Iowa and his father got a new job. Jeff and his father had a very good relationship. While he was in Iowa his father was cleaning out their crawl space where there were a lot of dead animal bones and Jeff reported saying that he loved the noise that they made. His interest in the noise of the animal bones is a slight warning of one of the MacDonald triads. He moved to Doylestown Ohio. After that started elementary school and his little brother David was born, his teachers reported that Jeff was starting to feel neglected.
