Internet Of Things
Research project – Internet of things

The internet of things has been a huge topic lately in the IT industry. What is the internet of things? “Simply put this is the concept of basically connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other).”(Morgan) In other words, the internet of things is the ability of interconnect everyday objects or “things” via a network. In order to exchange data that will allow for communication between these objects without the need for human input. Think, A biometric sensor could tell your doctor exactly how you’re feeling without the need for those drawn out “where does it hurt” conversations. Or perhaps, your house could monitor room temperatures and based off the speed of temperature loss in different areas, it could tell you exactly where you are wasting that energy. The possibilities are virtually endless. The internet of things will become more popular as time goes on and as the equipment needed becomes more readily available. It is safe to say that it is already extremely popular even. “Keynote presentations revealed that by 2020 more than two billion devices will be connected to the Internet and that the IoT will be enabling the creation of business models that could not have been considered before.”(Saint) It is already becoming rapidly prevalent in our everyday lives. Some devices already being implemented into society are biometric monitors. Such as heartrate sensors and exercise tracking devices (Fitbit, etc…). These can automatically connect to the internet via wireless connection (Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC) to a phone or computer and upload the data that they have been reading from your body. Such as heartrate, perspiration, distance traveled and speed, Calories burned, etc. This data can then be compared daily to see trends or can be reviewed to look for health issues that may be prevalent in your family. People can use them to improve results in weight loss or notify local authorities if

Technology is controlling and changing our everyday lives. I strongly believe Gary Shteyngart in his article “Only Connect”; not only is the I-phone changing everybody lives, but any other smart phone that exists in today’s society. Shteyngart says “With each passing year, scientists estimate that I lose between 6 and 8 percent of my humanity, so that by the close of this decade you will be able to quantify my personality.” He is correct because every year technology changes and advance. Each year people personality decrease in how they act in their everyday life. Smart phones have everything you can possibly imagine. Society is becoming too comfortable and lazy because they have all the answer they need rite at the palm of their hands. Smart phones have become very addicting to the point that people are not realizing the damage it’s doing to them self.…

Over the past few years technology has changed and had significant impact on the way we live. Almost everyone has a smart phone, regardless of age or social status. We text and email instead of talk, because it faster and convenient. We can rent movies with a click of the button and stream it to our device or home. Everything is based on internet and although prices aren’t cheap, everyone can afford something that suits their budget. I have also noticed that our textbook uses bar scan, assuming that everyone has a smart phone to retrieve it. Tablets, which are like mini computers, absolutely took over the market. Even small children know how to operate them. They are easy to use, convenient and have all the things needed in one place. You are able to connect to people from all over the world in seconds. Not only you can hear them, but you can also see them. Things that seemed to be impossible a few years back now are only one click of a button away. The cars are equipped in road maps and phone systems, so it makes our driving more safe and helpful. We probably think it can’t get any better, but we are almost guaranteed to be introduced to a new phenomenon at least once every few months.…

Currently in New Zealand the University of Canterbury psychology and engineering departments are creating ways to use wearable technology better. How can a watch with Skype and glasses that give tours get any better? Well, their goal is to get technology with an interface with sensors that also has data and memory storage and minimizes distractions to the user so that the user pays more attention to their surroundings while texting or emailing because the technology is easy to operate. If that is not in one’s best taste of fashion, the following might…

Another technological advance from “Becker’s Hospital Review” is “Sensors and Wearable Technology”. The wearable medical device market is growing at a growth rate of 16.4 percent a year, according to a Transparency Market Research report. Wearable medical technology is simply just another way to collect data. Sensors and wearable technology could be as simple as an alert sent to the care provider when a patient falls down or get hurt. These sensors and wearable technology also tell you if you have a cut and if it is infected or going to get…
