Injuries: My Experience At Tripler Hospital
Injuries can be quite an experience especially the one that we consider to be life changing. Injuries are something that can happen to us at almost anytime but usually do not but when they do we are never quite prepared for them. In this story, I had gotten injured and still am dealing with it today and was not at all prepared to be hurt at all. No injury is good but good things have come from being injured. When the injury happened first I had received the injury, then taken to the hospital and finally I am still dealing with the injury. It was back in 2014 when I was injured by falling off a ledge while I was in the Army during a training event in Hawaii. I do not remember much of what happened when I fell because I blacked out but according to others there I fell about 35 …show more content…
After that I was seen by a doctor who did not say much but then shortly left to get someone to take me to go get x-rays. Once I had gotten my x-rays done the doctor had come back and told me that I had broken my back in three separate places and that I was going to have surgery later that day to try and fix the breaks. After the surgery that took quite a few hours, I was still to be stuck in the hospital for around two weeks until finally I was released, but there was still much pain and many problems to deal with concerning my back.
Even today which is around three years ago I am still having to deal with problems relating to when I injured my back. I still have to go to the VA on a regular basis to be seen by a doctor who specializes in back injuries to try to correct the problem that is still there. I have even been told that I will most likely have to go and have more surgery to try and fix the injuries again. The pain is something I have to deal with almost daily and is still being treated almost three years after I fell and injured my

Well, as fate would have it, Nick ran into me. The momentum he had on impact, caused me to fall forward, right into a brick wall. The nurse called my mother, and told her that I had to go to the hospital. Before my mother got to the school, although she was driving pretty fast, I got to look in the mirror. My upper lip was split open, and did not look pretty. It was bleeding excessively when my mother got to the school. She quickly got me into the car, and we drove off.…

Walking around school and doors slamming into my face because no one would open them. Going out to eat and everyone staring at the “cripple.” Being in a full leg brace with crutches was a challenge. The only good that came from it physically was my arms got a little bit stronger. Under my arms I developed awful rashes that burned me tremendously. Mentally, I became a better person in every way possible. I was a very reckless individual and I stopped at nothing. I'd jump off buildings into snowbanks and not think about the consequences if I got hurt. My first time getting hurt changed my views on everything. Before I do anything, I think about my knee. It taught me to appreciate my body and not to beat on it constantly. I also feel grateful that I do have a very healthy body. Although my knee does hurt all the time, I can still walk. Now when I see someone disabled in anyway, I do not stare. Instead I feel a sense of sympathy for them. I understand the everyday struggles they must go through that other people might not consider. Before my injury, I never realized the simple things in everyday life are the biggest challenges to…

I landed bounced back up into the air and then landed on my back. I came to less than a couple seconds later looked down at my feet and checked myself for injuries. I didn’t see any so I rose to my feet and asked the cadre if I could try again. The Cadre replied “no” so I asked him again then he told me to “lay down because I might have a spinal injury”. I told him wouldn’t been able to get up if I had a spinal injury. I lost that argument, and was medically dropped from SFAS with three broken ribs. I was kept at Camp McCall for about a day until they sent me home. Although I was extremely disappointed by this. I still felt pride knowing I didn’t quit like many of the people that were…

Although I have had many injuries growing up, there is one that particularly changed my life for the better. The injury occurred when I was playing eighth grade football. It was August and we were scrimmaging Westfield; a very good team that had a lot of big players. The coach called me onto the field to play fullback, which means that I was probably going to carry the football. As I was running onto the field my heart started to beat a little faster. I had a bad feeling about getting the ball. I thought that I was going to get hurt because on the play prior the fullback ahead of me injured his knee on a run. Everything went well for the first few plays, but on the fifth play the coach called a fullback run. My heart was racing, at the snap of the ball I ran ahead for about an eight yard gain, but on the way down I felt a horrible pain in my right foot. I ended up going to the hospital a half an hour later, the doctor said that I had multiple fractures (6 to be exact), possibly some torn ligaments, and a dislocation of a few bones. I really did a number on myself. The doctor claimed to me that I would be out for at least 6 weeks, which is over halfway through the regular season. The doctor also highly recommended that I go see a sports injury specialist, or a foot specialist.…

There I was laying on the field, during the second half of my football game, tossing and turning as I held my right shoulder in agonizing pain. I looked up only to see the trainer looking down at me with a concerned look. “What’s wrong?” he asked. Repeatedly I tapped my shoulder as I was struggling to get the words out. He helped me up and walked me back to the sideline. I waited for what seemed like hours for the game to end. A few days later, I went to a local doctor to get an X-ray. The doctor told me that there was nothing wrong and that the pain should subside in a couple of days, and it did. Later in the season as I went in for a tackle, I felt my shoulder pop. Immediately I was in pain and thought to myself, “ It happened again.” This…

Life was going to dramatically change as the nurses rolled me into the operating room. Back surgery is an invasive operation as it is, but imagine it in the eyes of a thirteen-year-old girl. The surgeons explained the procedure as a spinal fusion, with titanium rods placed along both sides of my spine for stability. This procedure would correct my scoliosis. Afterward, the pain was more than anyone should endure. I was not allowed to twist or bend, and I was unable to dress myself, or leave the house alone. This was difficult to accept, as I didn’t want to become dependent upon others.…

My sophomore year while playing in a football game, I tackled a player from the other team right before half-time. While I was making the tackle, I felt a pop in my knee. It wasn’t very painful because of the adrenaline in my system at the time but the next day the pain came. It felt like there was a rubber band getting caught on my knee and coming off almost every step I took. I just put this pain aside through part of basketball season until the pain was too much and I went to get a check up, then a MRI, then before i knew it I had to get surgery for a torn meniscus. This ended my basketball season. After surgery I went to my rehab physical therapist Dr. Marty in Centralia. He got my knee back in good working order after…
