Topic: How to be a successful soccer referee in the state of NJ.

Specific Purpose Statement: To inform soccer fans on how to become a soccer referee, and how to properly execute a game of soccer.

Central Idea: To learn how to become a soccer referee, and how to properly execute a game of soccer.

Heads up everyone!
Today I am going to teach all of you how to become a successful soccer referee.
Soccer is the most popular sport in the world.
I have been a NJ State Licensed referee for 7 years.
Being a ref is a very easy, yet very stressful job. I am going to teach you all how to become a referee, and how to properly execute a game of soccer.

(Connective): Before I teach you how to properly ref a game of soccer, I will teach you how to become a licensed referee in the state of New Jersey.

The process of becoming a referee is easy, but takes many hours of studying and preparation. (Topical)
 Every referee must first attend a three day long seminar, and pass the entrance exam.

The seminar is held twice every year, a few weeks before both seasons start in the spring and in the fall.
 The minimum age of a referee is 14 years old on the first day of class.
 There is a $75.00 entrance fee.


 The seminar is broken down into three sections.
 The first two days consist of 16 hours instruction. 8 hours each day.
 The last day consists of a lengthy review, followed by a 100 question exam, which requires a 75% to pass.

B. Once you have successfully finished the seminar with a passing grade, you are now a state licensed referee, but you need to buy equipment before you are assigned games, you will need:

 i. A referee uniform; consisting of the jersey, shorts, socks, and cleats.

 a) The standard referee shirt is yellow, but there are other colors such as red, blue,
