I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Literary Analysis
In the autobiography I Know Why the Caged Birds Sings by Mary Angelou, the chapter “Graduation” includes symbols and literary devices that portray segregation and prosperity throughout the story. Furthermore, the vigorous symbols and literary devices expose the emotions and limitations of segregation. Moreover, these devices reveals the feelings of contentment.

During the 1940’s, segregation depresses the African American people and composes them to feel dispirited. Particularly, the white schools acquire a fence that detaches it from schools of other races. While the whites bear a fence around their school, Mary Angelou’s school “[is] set on a dirt hill with no fence” (1). Retaining no fence symbolizes their acceptance of diverse people.

I disagree, however, some are born into more luxurious lives, some are born disabled with no way to recover, and some are born with a special “ticket” through life called talent.
