HTreatment/Lifestyle of Hypertension
A critical step in preventing and treating high blood pressure is a healthy lifestyle. You can lower your blood pressure with the following lifestyle changes: Losing weight if you are overweight or obese, quitting smoking, and eating a healthy diet, including the diet dash (eating more fruits, vegetables, and low fat dairy products, less saturated and total fat). Also, reducing the amount of sodium in your diet to less than 1,500 milligrams a day if you have high blood pressure, getting regular aerobic exercise, but limiting alcohol to two drinks a day for men, and one drink a day for women.

These include: smoking, obesity or being overweight, diabetes, lack of physical activity, high levels of salt intake (sodium sensitivity) –Americans of all ages regardless of individual risk factors can improve the heart health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by restricting their daily consumption of sodium , insufficient calcium, potassium and magnesium consumption, vitamin D deficiency, high levels of alcohol consumption, stress, aging, medicines such as birth control pills, genetics and a family history of hypertension- some genes in the kidneys may contribute hypertension, chronic kidney disease, adrenal and thyroid problems or tumors.

Description: Hypertension (or high blood pressure) is a condition where the pressure of the blood flowing through the arteries of the body is higher than it should be. Much like the pressure of the air in a tire, if the pressure of the blood is too high it can damage the arteries and organs of the body. Just like the tire, if the pressure suddenly becomes very high, catastrophic events can happen. Similarly, if the pressure remains somewhat elevated for a long enough periods of time, premature wear and failure can occur. The normal level for blood pressure is below 120/80, where 120 represent the systolic measurement (peak pressure in the arteries) and 80 represents the diastolic measurement (minimum pressure in the arteries). Blood pressure between 120/80 and 139/89 is called prehypertension (to denote increased risk of hypertension), and a blood pressure of 140/90 or above is considered hypertension.
