Three years later I met James Cox. He was living with his Mother’s Pastor Charles and his wife. We met on the job and became friends. James passed his physical for the fire department and he wanted to go out to celebrate. He took me to a very nice restaurant called Max House. Once we were seated he smile and said thank you for accepting my invitation. I brought you here to show you how much I appreciate you for working the extra hours and allow me to get paid for it. Few people would work another’s shifts and gave them the hours. That was the only way he could go through his training and still keep his pay. I had not minded doing that for him. While we sat in the restaurant he thanked me repeatedly for helping him. Then he told me about his life. He came to New York…

Back in my middle school years, I was only a person living to please others, such as making good grades to make my parents proud. As I entered high school, I kept my insecurities packed away, and concealed it with a smile. One night, a friend took me to Fuse at NewSpring Church, the preacher taught, “For God so loved the…
When reflecting on what my faith style is I looked back on my life. I thought about my childhood and growing up in a Christian based home. Growing up my faith style was very traditional. We went to church almost every Sunday. We had strict rules and morals. I followed the rules and guidelines as much as any young child would do.…
Life itself is a dark and twisted thing. It seems to make many twists and turns that eventually make out a bag of happenings. All of these circumstances make you a wiser person as these events go on. “Run! You got this Hannah!”, shouted my dad. Hearing him cheer me on urged me to play tougher, run faster, kick the ball harder. I passed to one of my teammates, she scored, and the crowd went wild. I turned towards my dad and saw his smile explode across the field making me feel like the utmost adored person in the world. This was my junior year. It has been three months since my father abruptly died. I spent time with him on Sunday and he was gone on Monday. I felt desolate, heartbroken, and resentful. I could have succumbed to my sadness or even gone insane, but I elected to go on. If my dad were alongside me now, he would say, “Hanzie, you’ve been through enough to know that life’s not fair. It will never be fair. Push through it, and you’ll be okay.”…

In this research paper, I will try to illustrate my hypothesis of spiritual formation throughout the lifespan by using my interpretation of a collection of theories. The theories I will refer to include Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory, Erikson’s Psychosocial Theory, and Kohlberg’s Development of Moral Reasoning Theory. In Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development, he develops a theory of cognitive development that occurs in stages from persons under two years of age through age 14. Piaget’s theory relates to the cognitive development of a human person. In Erik Erickson's Theory of Psychosocial Development, Erikson describes a theory consisting of eight stages of psychosocial development. This is in regard to personality development and the impact of external factors to that development. Lawrence Kohlberg sums up his theory with several distinct stages of development regarding moral reasoning. He presents moral dilemmas to persons, and observes how a person talks about those dilemmas. I will try to correlate my thoughts on spiritual formation throughout the life span to these theories as I use these authors’ models of mature thought, moral and cognitive development.…
In 1997, I got sucked into the life of fast money, drugs, and even gangs. I became a member of the street gang, The Crips. I was making a lot of money and had totally lost sight of everything I had worked so hard to establish within my life as a Christian. I literally had made a turn for worse in my life and was getting dangerous and worse by the minute.…

In the fall of 1995, we went to the beach with our family as we did every year. While at the beach, God told me I would break the spirit of infirmity off my family – it was a generational curse. Generational curses are passed from parents to children. I did not think much of it because I thought I could simply pray “it” away! When we were leaving the beach, I had my first vision from the Lord. It was odd. In the vision, I was standing on a large stage and giving my testimony. Then God spoke to me that I would testify and begin a ministry called “The Word Works!”…
