As a very common known street drug, heroin has become the drug that destroys many families in the United States. Due to the fact that Heroin has become the more accessible drug, it is causing more and more people addicted? Heroin addiction has become extremely dangerous in today’s society to both young and old. (Heroin Intervention, 2014).
Heroin has a chemical structure that is more than likely the reason so many become addicted so fast. Heroin unlike so many drugs have all sorts of ways it can be used, some are faster acting than others. Heroin can be injected, snorted, smoked, or even used as a suppository, all of which allow the users body to feel the drugs affect much faster. With being such a fast acting drug it makes any user want it more and more which makes them become addicted that much faster.
(Addiction, 2014)
As for who can become addicted to Heroin. Anyone from all walks of life. Even some as young as 12 years old have become addicted (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2013). Why we may ask ourselves do people turn to this drug to become addicted. Once again there are all sorts of different reasons. (All About Heroin, 2014)
With Heroin addiction being so very dangerous a family must take immediate action with sometime of intervention. The addicts’ families need to be concerned of what is happening to his or her loved one and take immediate action to get the help that an addict needs. The usage with young adults ranging from 18-25 seems to be on the increase, with only approximately eleven percent seeking proper treatment. (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2012) Suburban and rural communities have also reported a large amount of overdose and even death due to the increase in heroin use (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2012). Death by overdose have been put into groups of death: one is a opioid group and the other is a non-opioid group. Statics show that 87.9% die due to heroin overdose and of that percent 87% are of the male gender. So many addicts either end up in prison or worse yet have died. (Horvath, Dunay, Csonka and Keller,
2012). Heroin is the one drug that every time it is used here is a risk of overdosing. Addicts without the help of someone will rarely get the needed help on his or her own. Because
