How Did Woodrow Wilson Influence The Government Of The United States
President Woodrow Wilson- He is the 28th president who directed America during WW1, by bringing it into and out of the war. William Jennings Bryan- He was Wilson’s Secretary of State who was delighted at America’s plan to force other countries to trade and work together. W. E. B. Du Bois- He was an influential African American leader of the NAACP and he believed there needed to be full and immediate equality for Blacks and Whites. In addition, he criticized the Europeans and America for colonizing or imperializing poor countries to profit. World War 1- This is the bloodiest and most brutal war ever recorded. It broke out within Europe due the assassination of an Austrian duke by a Serbian radical group. It would involve almost all countries within Europe and was the first war where strategy gave way to mass killings as a means for victory. Lusitania- This was a British passenger ship that was carrying 124 Americans when it was sank by a German submarine. It made Americans feel they were personally attacked by Germany and inspired feelings for war in America. The Passage of the Espionage Act, June 1917- The passage of this act outlawed any form of insubordination. In all 900 people were charged under the Espionage Act for crimes such as speaking negatively about the President or War. Green Corn Rebellion- This was a planned rebellion in Oklahoma by the Socialist party and IWW to block military enlistments in that area. They were going to blow up a railroad bridge and cut telegraph wires, how their plan was foiled by the police who arrested the leaders and members of the planned rebellion March on Boston, July 1917- This march was organized by radicals who wanted to not go to war. Their banners proclaimed how the war wasn’t a popular idea, rather one that the President wanted. In all, 8000 people marched and were attacked by sailors and soldiers who were ordered to do
