How Did The Manhattan Project Contribute To Ww2

Word War Two began on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland and ended when the Japanese formally surrendered on September 2, 1945. The United States did not get involved in the war until December 7, 1941, when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Immediately following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States joined forces with the Allies bringing with them political, economic, innovative and technological resources in order to successfully defeat their enemies and win the war. The team of Allies was made up of four major contributing powers. These powers included the United States, England (Great Britain and the United Kingdom), the Soviet Union (Russia), and France. The Manhattan project was designed to create the first Atomic Bomb or A-Bomb. Christopher J. Tassava describes the Manhattan Project in his article The American Economy during World War II (2008) by telling us “under the direction of the U.S. Army and several private contractors, scientists, engineers, and workers built a nationwide complex of laboratories and plants to manufacture atomic fuel and to fabricate atomic weapons.” He also goes on to say that “The Manhattan Project climaxed in August 1945, when the United States dropped two atomic weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan; these attacks likely accelerated Japanese leaders’ decision to seek peace with the United States.” Ultimately it was the result of the Manhattan Projects successful creation of the Atomic Bomb that led to the end of World War Two when Japan
The government stepped up and empowered the nation to come together and put forth the effort needed to win the war. Doris Goodwin in her article The Way We Won: America's Economic Breakthrough During World War II (1992) tells us how Franklin D. Roosevelt sought to push the nation to assist with the needs of the war. Goodwin says “he realized Congress could provide the money, but it could not build the planes, design the tanks, or assemble the weapons. Without the cooperation of industry, massive production would never get off the ground.” It is strange to think that if there wasn’t that push from the government that there is a possibility that the innovation and technology, that ultimately won the war for the United States and the Allies, would not have had the same successful
