How Baseball Influenced Me

I believe that America’s pastime has a major influence on a person’s character. Whether you are on the field, in the stands, or even on the couch, the game of baseball seems to always have an effect on you. Baseball and life can be synonymous, and I believe that the lessons learned by playing the game can play a huge part in the way you live your life.
As a child, I grew up carrying a baseball glove and a pearly white baseball wherever I went, hoping for the chance of finding a partner to play catch with. The game of baseball was never just a game for me; it was a lifestyle that I had fallen in love with. With that being said, the fundamentals of baseball had no immediate effect on me as a kid. However, as I have matured along with my love for baseball, I believe that the game my life has been centered around for nearly twelve years has shaped me into the person I am today.
The team atmosphere is the most important part of the game, teaching me how to communicate effectively and how to be selfless. Learning to sit back in the box and wait for that perfect pitch taught me patience. Standing in there and taking a fastball off of the elbow taught me that pain is only temporary. Working through a hitting slump taught me mental toughness and that hard work will eventually pay off. Not losing my temper after the umpire calls me out on a terrible third strike taught me respect and composure. These are only some of the little things in baseball that will leave a lasting impression on my character. I believe that baseball has provided me with the most essential characteristics to become a successful member of
