Homework
Why Kids Should Have Less Homework Homework has been given to students to reinforce what they learn at school, and hopefully to help them learn the material better. Except, too much homework is not helpful, and can be counterproductive. Too much time can be spent on completing homework which could take away a kids social life, family time and takes away time from participating in sports or other activities. The amount of homework a teacher can give to a student should be limited and only assigned if necessary. Firstly, many teachers defend the idea of large amounts of homework, claiming that it helps students prepare for a world that is increasing competively. Too much of homework can be harmful to kids both physically and mentally. A lot of homework usually means a lot of books to carry. Carrying large amounts of weight daily at a young age can do a lot of damage because the bones are still in development. Injuries can possibly occur or lead to serious problems later in life like shoulder, neck and back pain. Also, the large amount of homework is causing kids in both high school and middle school to be up until, maybe, midnight or later when other activities such as sports, clubs, and so on are included. So that causes kids to wake up early in the morning to finish their homework, leaving with not enough sleep. Some parents and teachers argue that it would be beneficial to a child’s academics to limit school activities. Homework also takes away from time that a kid could be spending with his or her family. This time could be better spent on family time or doing things together and also other things that you do during the weekends when homework is limited. Critically acclaimed author Tamim Ansary reports since 1981, the amount of homework given to the average sixth grader has increased by more than fifty percent. Many people claim that the increase in homework dates as far back as 1957, when the Russians launched Sputnik into outer space. The

Moreover, homework isn't only wasting the student's time but the teachers time as well. By marking and grading homework, teachers are wasting their time. So teachers, please don't blame us the we wasted your time. Some people assume that homework is useful for teachers to watch student's progress but I firmly believe that homework is sent home to test the parents, not the children. I think that teachers can watch the student's progress in school better because teachers don't know that at home who did the homework, the parent, the student or the internet (Google)??????? People also think that homework helps parents to understand that the school holds high goals for students. But, I consider that school work is harder than homework and that means that parents can understand that the school holds higher goals than they think. Furthermore, homework becomes terrible if no one can help you. If no one can help you then you are doing work that you don’t understand, and if you don’t understand it what’s the point having the work that you can’t even do. I really, strongly believe that more kids would stay in school and have a better learning experience if they did not have the stress of homework.…

Imagine a world where students come home from school and take the time to unwind and relax. It has been proven that almost three quarters of Canadian parents think that homework is a household stress. So why is homework still being assigned at schools, especially for younger grades? In recent years, the question of whether or not homework should be banned from elementary schools and limited to one hour per weekday in high school has been widely discussed. According to a Stanford Researcher, too much homework can negatively children. It takes their lives away from school, where family, friends, and social activities matter (Parker). The opponents of this educational approach argue that if students are not given homework to do, they will not become successful in the future. However, banning homework from elementary school and limiting it to one hour per weekday in high school is beneficial in terms of health, academics, and real world experiences.…

To begin with, homework is taking way family time and fun time from students. Because students get a lot of homework they no longer have time to spend time with their family or have their own free time. For instance, in the article titled “5 Reasons Why Homework is Bad for Your Child,” the author states, “Children need time to spend with their family, catch up with friends and attend extracurricular activities so they can refresh their minds and bodies.” The reasons that are stated in the article specifically, are examples of how homework takes away family time. School is supposed to only take up to 6 hours but with homework it no longer take 6 hours of school work but more. Therefore, students don’t have enough time to do there own things.…

Kids should have less homework because they are using all of their time at home doing homework instead of doing something productive. The average student gets around 75% of homework each day. In class you do lots of non-stop work. Then you go home and do the same thing for 5 days. All that work could easily put you under pressure which makes you do your homework all wrong and you don't notice until you get to school. All that pressure could also fail you on a test. When you're trying to do your homework you're also studying for a test.…

Do you think kids should have homework? I don’t know because sometimes it takes hours to do. Right now I usually have homework in math science and English everyday. I don’t think we should have homework because it’s too much work to start and it gets in the way of after school activities and most importantly can cause some health problems.…

Students in America should get less homework on daily basis. Too much homework can cause stress and other health issues. Students work more than the recommended amount of time on homework, and this takes away from their family time, free time, as well as for sleep. Shouldn’t students get less homework so that they can be happy and have more time with family and friends? When a student gets home, he or she usually pulls out a big stack of paper that is due the next day. The most of the times they say “ I can’t finish all of this, it’s too much.” After a big lecture from their parents, they’re still stuck doing all of this work.…

Some educators and schools worldwide have banned homework. I strongly believe that schools give too much homework and should be banned because less homework gives teachers more time to plan lessons, children need more time for other activities, and homework often has bad effect on students. First of all, less homework gives teachers more time to plan lessons. According to the Achieve 3000 article, “No More Homework?,” in paragraph 2, the author says, “If teachers did not have to mark homework, they would have more time to plan lessons and monitor students’ daily progress.” If teachers do not give homework, they would have more time on their hands to work on other things.…

Kids get too much homework every night, and never have any time to do it. We go to school seven hours, five days a week, and don’t have time for anything but homework. Teachers seem to think that kids have all the time in the world to sit down and do all their homework, but in reality, we have lives too. Yes, schools should get rid of homework because it takes time away that we should be spending with family, extracurricular activities and may cause sleep deprivation and stress.…

In a nut shell, students should not have homework. It is not the fact that students are overworking. I believe, as a student, that homework is just a tool that teachers use to keep us busy. It doesn’t really have a good purpose and there is more of a negative side to it than a positive side. Homework causes kids to get very stressed out, it causes stress in their families, and studies show that it doesn’t improve test scores. It actually shows the opposite: Duke University’s Harris Cooper found out that, “doing more than 60 to 90 min. a night in middle school and more than 2hr. in high school is associated with, gulp, lower scores.” This just shows that homework is a useless item that students are forced to do.…

Homework stops kids from being kids. Kids are stopped from having fun as they waste away at their desks stressing maniacally about homework. A recent survey found that parents think that their children have “ too much” homework and what they are given is “too difficult” leading to nearly a quarter (23%) of parents completing homework with absolutely no input from their child. This is a ridiculous statistic. Not only is homework taking up kid’s time, but it is wasting their parents’ time too. Children need to spend time with family. Alfie Kohn, author of The Homework Myth, agree with this; “Homework is frequently the source of frustration, exhaustion, family conflicts and a lack of time for kids to pursue other interests. It may be the greatest single extinguisher of children 's curiosity.”…

When the word “homework’ comes to the mind of a student, it means pressure and disappointment. Homework existed for a very long time. Some students may think it is beneficial and while others think otherwise. Why is homework given? From my research, the objective of homework is to consolidate and reinforce learning done in school and allow the child to practice skills taught in lessons in class. However, I will offer reasons why the objective of homework is not met and students should not be given homework.…
