In Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle an idea worth learning about in the film was the idea of love conquering all.Love conquering all is about two lovers being able to love each other no matter what hurdles stand in their way they manage to jump them due to their immense love for each other. This universal theme is found across plays like Romeo and Juliet to novels like Feed. Love conquering all is a global theme as it has been unearthed throughout many cultures, lasting longs periods of time within those cultures. Audiences around the world get drawn in by love conquering all, as they want the highpoint of the film to be about the lovers joining up at the end and giving the audience what they’ve hungered for throughout, the final kiss. In Slumdog Millionaire, love conquering all is shown by the love between Jamal and Latika, which is threatened by the obstacles of Salim, Prem and the gang lord. But still even with this long lasting run of hurdles both Jamal and Latika overcome them and find love for each other, being motivated by the determination to get to each other.

Boyle employs cinematography to the conflict between Jamal and Prem. Mid-shots and birds eye-view shots are the shots used to help the viewer establish this conflict. A birds-eye view shot is used in the opening scenes of the film to give the viewer a clue of the conflict between Prem and Jamal. The birds-eye view shot is of the set of “Who wants to be a millionaire,” and also shows Jamal and Prem sitting face to face with just two monitors separating them. Seeing the stage through the scaffolding helps create the image that Jamal and Prem are enclosed and imprisoned on the set, and the audience are cut off from both men.
