Nursing Roles and Responsibilities in Health Promotion Health promotion has become priority issues and future directions for health professions from a world perspective. By focusing on individuals, families, communities, and the environments in which people live, work, and play the health care professionals today are vital links for promoting national and international health. Nurses today are required to have sufficient vision and expertise to provide the health of their clients. With leadership, creativity, and determination, the nurse can establish a healthier future for all people around the globe. According to American Journal of Health promotion, “health promotion is the art and science of helping people discover the synergies between their core passions and optimal health, enhancing their motivation to strive for optimal health, and supporting them changing their life style to move toward a state of optimal health”. The change of life style with positive health practices can be achieved by health awareness, motivation, building skills and creation of oppertunities.This optimal health is a dynamic balance of physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual need of an individual. World Health Organization developed a campaign in 1990s called Healthy People 2000 which was aimed at health awareness, and nurses were responsible for educating the public with clear policies and responsibilities (Gott and O’Brien, 1990). The purpose of health promotion in nursing became crucial, because nurses have more direct contacts with patients or the public which make the best avenue for carrying out health promotion. Research shows that improvement of nursing practice as over the years quite substantial changes have been noticed in remodeling health promotion. Nowadays the public is more knowledgeable, so nurses are faced with challenges for
