Hatred and Math
I Hate Everything and Anything About Mathematics First things first, the title is a lie. I don’t hate Mathematics, but I don’t have overwhelming positive emotions regarding it either nor am I entirely lacking an opinion regarding the matter. My stand on Mathematics is it’s necessary, but it’s hard. Like really hard. People usually think that the Moh’s scale of hardness ends with the diamond at number 10, but really there are 2 more things Moh forgot to put as he lacked time. One, a woman’s heart at 11 and Mathematics at 12. Ok, I made up the last part, but in my eyes and most of the general public’s it’s mostly true. I first met Math when I was young. He gave me a hard time. Back in the days of flashcards and simple addition, I shied away from the numbers and rapid computations. It wasn’t because I sucked at it or I hated competing with others, but mainly because I tend to overthink things and worry too much and end up miserably failing. To this day, I need a calculator (when allowed) to see if I added 1+1 correctly. Math is fun, but only when Math takes it easy on you or lets you understand him/her. The feeling of solving a problem is one of life’s greatest joys, that and seeing a Toki with space 10 minutes before your next class. There are days though when Math seemingly hates you (which is practically everyday for none mathletic people) and wants to ruin your life and steal everyone you hold dear away from you. Really, if you don’t understand the lesson, this is what Math feels like. The only thing you can do is try to appease him/her by spending time with him/her and trying to understand what he/she wants you to know. It is troublesome, but since Math is necessary in a whole bunch of areas and fields you have to work with her for good. Math is a necessary evil. Maybe not evil, but just really hard. It is a necessary hard thing that is at times fun. That is what I truly think of Mathematics. I stand by my opinion on Math, and in time I know Math and I

Ever since I can remember, I loved mathematics. The exactness of it marveled me, while its complexity intrigued me. While others regarded math as straight forward, I believed that it required an ingenuity even higher than that of the arts. To me, a math problem was a chaotic sort of Lego pieces and the answer to the problem was the finished Lego set. The real fun was in devising the instructions on how to get from the original jumbled mess to the final pristine solution. However, the other kids around me scorned math and relished in what they considered to be more imaginative pursuits, such as reading a book or drawing pictures. If I could show my peers math from the way I see it, I was sure its beauty would astound them, and they would appreciate it as much as I do.…

I never came kindly to the subject of Math. Math was always about constant rote memorization, full of extensive redundant notes that always found their way stuffed into the folds of my notebook never to be seen again. I held onto this impression the entire duration of ninth grade. However, upon a simple happenstance of acquiring the right math teacher with a different approach to math, I became increasingly aware of my previous errors in thinking. Everything was not as unyielding and tedious as I thought it was. Experiencing a teacher with a powerful new perspective altered my rigid frame of thinking, allowing me to excel in math.…

Mathematics is highly valued in our society but for many students the thought of learning mathematics is daunting. Learning mathematics in primacy school may have been a positive experience but it may have also been filled with frustration and anxiety. If a teacher has a negative view of mathematics then their students will adopt this view. Students must be shown the relevance and purpose of mathematics in a real life and meaningful way. There is no doubt that mathematics is an indispensable tool for understanding our world. As we move through the twenty-first century no one can be clear on what mathematics will be needed, but it is clear that students will need to know how to reason mathematically and apply mathematical thinking to a wide range of situations (Reys, R. E., Lindquist, M. M., Lambdin, D. V., Smith, N. L., Rogers, A., Falle, J., Frid, S., Bennett, S. (2012). Helping Children Learn Mathematics (1st Australian ed.). Originally, I did not enjoy math when I was in Vietnam because the teachers focused too much on strict memorization, while giving little attention to applications. However, when I started school in America in my sixth grade year, my passion for math developed. Initially, it was the only subject in which I excelled, due to my disadvantage of not speaking English, but eventually finding an answer to a math problem would become an adventure for me. I never gave up on finding an answer even if it meant working from sun to sun. Throughout my high school years, I have always maintained an A plus in all of my math, science, and Latin courses. Also, I was the student who scored highest in my school, a 98, on the Algebra II End of Course exam. I presently taking College Algebra and…

I consider mathematics as a very important tool in life. My first real memories with mathematics began in my elementary years. I use to bring home assignments of several pages in order to master the basic arithmetic principles. I would go over my textbook answering several pages that included addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. What a truly memorable experiences they were and still was very rewarding especially when I got the correct answers. Other than that, I could compete with my classmates in how fast we can solve the problems.…

Hatred requires a constant examination of your hated object's flaws, its counterarguments, its good qualities-- anything that makes it unworthy of hate. And then, you counter those arguments. You crush them. You answer that whatever good the object of your hatred may have is based on incorrect logic and decide that it is worthless. That is why hatred is an overall better feeling than love. Hatred is purer, more empowering, and more intellectual, than love.…

Math has been easy for me till i hit high school. I did not struggle in middle school or in elementary school. Why i think i did not struggle in middle school is because the teachers were better at teaching and actually dedicating themselves to teach the kids and for them to have a better understanding. In the past when i used to struggle in math i was confident enough to ask the teacher for help. But now that i am in high school that changed because the teacher is kind of mean and does not really teach well. In the past when i would struggle on a difficult problem i would work and continue working until i could figure out the solution. I was doing this because wen i was in elementary school i felt more like i know what i was doing instead…

Some may say mathematics aren’t all that important. There are actually thousands of different jobs that require some knowledge of mathematics. Without mathematics you wouldn’t that there is a big difference between $100 and $1,000. Although mathematics is used in everyday life, some may say creating games was way more important than anything. For others, the creation of games may be more important because that may be all they do, all day long. While that may be true, in someone else’s opinion math helped change the world for the better. Why for the better? Because math has brightened the future. A thousand years before Europeans made significant advances in the field, scholars in Muslim civilization were creating new mathematical…
