Harlem Renaissance Research essay There were many changes that happened in American history, one major event that occurred was the Harlem Renaissance. This event happened after slaves were freed and migrated to the northern states, where instead of hiding they accepted who they are in many different ways. Many people participated in this time, it changed views, fashion, music and even creative writings.
During the 1920s there was a movement called the Harlem Renaissance, caused by The Great Migration, there were many racial and discriminant perspectives of the white community towards African Americans who migrated to the North. Due to this the African American community embraced their heritage and culture, by expressing their ways to those that segregated and discriminated towards them. They usually expressed themselves in paces called speakeasies, where anyone could express what they wanted such as jazz music, dancing, poetry, and drinking along with whites. Through his poetry and other writings, expressing the hardships that African Americans had to face during this time. He later got discovered by the famous poet Vachel Lindsay, by slipping his poems under his table as he worked as a busboy he gained the nickname “Negro busboy poet”. As his career and popularity started to expand, he wrote a poem called “I Too”, which showed the darkness of racism. Through the poem it tells a story of an African American who is invited to eat in the kitchen when there is company, but when the time comes no one invites him to join. This is just one of many poems he wrote that made an impact in the Harlem Renaissance, but as clearly shown he was an important person to most people during this
