General logistics

It is widely known that logistics plays a major role in the product and service production. Logistics is described as: ‘’the part of Supply Chain Management that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customers ' requirements’’.i It is important in all the business processes and concentrates on moving goods and services from suppliers to producers to the end consumers. One important part of logistics is the transportation industryii. The transportation industry could be considered as one of the most important industries in logistics when moving goods and servicesiii. The industry includes three different ways of moving the goods and services: via air, sea and land. The usage of the transportation industry also comes with a lot of problems. Pollution is one of them, since the transportation industry mostly uses fossil fuels to operate, it increases the risk on global warmingiv.

Importance of green logistics

Looking at the environmental effects of pollution and depletion of natural resources, several governments and public officials encourage and motivate people to engage in pro environment behavioursv. Since people getting more aware of the environmental issues going on in the world, companies are forced to engage in pro environmental behaviour. This environmental behaviour was expressed by using the word ‘green’. Companies should become greener in their activities. The transportation industry is seen as a big contributor to the environmental issues in the worldvi. That is why it is important for companies to transform their logistical systems such that it gets a greener image to present to the world. Companies being aware of environmental issues try to improve their

CONSIDERATION OF RELEVANT THEORIES & CONCEPT 2.1 Logistics: According to Grund & Vartdal, logistics is “the process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient, cost effective flow and storage of raw materials, in-process inventory, finished goods, services and related information from point of origin to point of consumption for the purpose of conforming to customer Requirements’ Council of Logistics Management” (Grund & Vartdal, 2000). It is a part of value chain activity, planed, implemented and controlled in order to meet customers’ needs for goods, services and related information, it is a combination of transport, storage, handling, packaging, distribution processing, distribution, information processing and other basic functions. Logistic Management has four major characters, firstly, to achieve customer satisfaction as the first target, secondly, optimize the enterprise as a whole as the purpose, thirdly, information-centric, fourthly, value efficiency and effectiveness. 2.2 Logistics and Transportation: There are several classifications for logistics and transportation. - Road transport: Mainly use gas trucks and other vehicles, road transport is responsible for close and small quantities of cargo, also where water transport and rail transport difficult to play their advantages.     Green marketing is promoting environmental advantages through a company’s product; it can be internal dealing with employees and the organization with the external factor dealing with customers. Green marketing is taking off due to much interest from customers; since knowledge of our environment is being observed. Especially with knowledge from the media stating that something needs to be done in order to protect our environment from increasing numbers in pollution and air quality. Green marketing started to grab attention in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, but it was mentioned sometime before then. Polonsky (1994) stated that, “The American Marketing Association (AMA) held the first workshop on ‘Ecological Marketing’ in 1975.” (p. 1) Many people now look for companies that support going green and the environment as a whole. So many businesses have decided to modify their behaviors to be able to join the new concerns from society. The purpose of marketing is to inform customers on what they want or needs to be done to sway them to purchase a product. To be effective in marketing you must communicate to your customer the benefits of your product. Going green is a method used to drive brand loyalty and sustainability for a company in which its customers are concerned with the environment and sustainability of the company. For some companies green marketing messages does not best suit them; if their customers do not care about the environment or sustainability of the company, a message would not push brand loyalty and purchases. From the aspect of a company, if sustainability is important to them they should not shy away. According to a 2009 January/February study by the American Marketing Association, “More than half of corporate marketers believe that their organizations will increase their involvement in environmental sustainability over the next two to three years, and 43% say their companies will increase marketing of these programs.”…

    Here in Russia we consider that the slogan “Go green!” is one of the most important mottos for many western companies. Nowadays it is getting really trendy to do green business and to follow the rule “Think globally, act locally”. And actually I want to believe that it is not a cheap marketing move to attract more and more customers but these companies really work this way. I absolutely do not want to find out in one fine day that all sustainable manufacturers are frauds and they deceive us only to get excellent reputation and to enjoy surplus. On the contrary, I would really like to be sure that all the companies and manufacturers do not pollute our environment with harmful waste and smoke, do not test their products on defenseless animals. Lamentable as it is, but we live in the very cruel world among people who pollute the atmosphere, water and ground, extirpate flora and fauna, not caring about their future, about their offsprings’ life. I am certain that companies must adopt such practices like reducing and recycling their energy, must introduce new technologies, not doing tests on cats and rabbits and other animals. On this essay I would like to write in the first paragraph about all the possible steps to do any business ecofriendly, in the second one I am going to examine all the positive and negative effects of doing green businesses, and in the last paragraph I would like to enumerate famous green and non-green companies and take a look at their strategies.…
