Graduation Speech: Spotsylvania County
Good Evening Ms. Calveric,
I hope you are well. You may not remember, but you interviewed me during a job fair at Longwood University last year. We bonded over our love for Carol Dweck and her social psychology essays. I am currently looking for a new teaching experience out of my county and I was wondering if it is possible to meet with you again to explore any possible teaching positions in Spotsylvania County.
Respectfully,
Eryn

Throughout the 1970’s there was only three very small strip shopping malls the served a country setting population. Then the 1980’s came, and flooded the suburbs with malls. Hello students, faculty, and families of BFCCPS. As my classmates and I stand here before you tonight, I imagine we are all thinking very different things. Some of us are excited, others sad, and some scared. Maybe not at this moment, but at some point we have all thought about the time we have spent at BFCCPS and how our years at this unique school have changed us. Whether you arrived as a nervous kindergartener or a confident middle schooler, the opportunities we have been given, and the lessons we have learned have shaped each and every one of us into the people we are today, and more importantly, the people we will become in our futures.…

Sweat rolls down your chin. Although this isn’t a silly game for children to play, it’s certainly as trying. A thousand thoughts hit the sides of your head. Your vote decides if Pennsylvania ratifies the Declaration of Independence. Should you vote in favor? The British wouldn’t bother you anymore, but at least they gave you supplies. I should vote against, your brain says. Again, it says, I should vote against.…

One thing people have always told me is that I remind them of the person Randall Cobb from the book game changers. He has one of the most creative and unique personalities. He is passionate for the game of basketball by working hard on his time. Randall is also talented in the subjects math and science by pushing himself to make good grades. He also thrives to help people even if it's with school work, personal problems, or on the basketball court. All in all he was almost exact the same person as I am he likes basketball, he helps others, and he does well in school.…

As you may know, today marks the exact two-month anniversary of your election as Birmingham's mayor, and I congratulate you for defeating Mr. Bull Connor. However, while I do respect your authority, I must note that you have not done a lot to help the current state of affairs concerning African-American civil rights, and I am calling and counting on you to accomplish more. I do know that this situation is what the majority of people want, so technically, racial segregation is the most beneficial and advantageous condition. This hatred towards African-Americans is what the majority of Birmingham citizens wish to exist, so I understand that to some extent, I must go on with it. In 1951, many racial ordinances…

Then you arrive at the school. You sit in the assigned seat and watch the children before you get up and shake hands. You feel your hands get clammy as you wait. You wait till you hear your name and realize that it’s your time to shine. You stand up and hear the creaking of the harwood on your shoes.
