Grades have long been used in most schools to indicate the degree to which students grasp subject matter and to document overall classroom performance. By most accounts, students with diverse learning needs and/or disabilities are at a significant disadvantage in school. Despite the fact that some students have IEP objectives and goals, some teachers, inclusion/general education teachers, sometimes forget that these students are working/processing information at a much slower rate than other student; therefore, forgetting to incorporate alternative grading options for students with diverse learning need or disabilities. Most often student grades generally stem from test performance; however, not all students are good test takers and without meaningful accommodations in curriculum and instruction and in testing and grading practices, many of these students will become further alienated; therefore, teachers need to develop alternative methods to the traditional grading system.…

    Grading Scale

    • 1829 Words
    • 8 Pages

Anyone who has attended a high school or college will readily say that one of the most stressful aspects of the entire experience is grades. Students will loose hours of sleep per night poring over textbooks, clutching a pen in one hand and a mug of Starbucks coffee in the other. They soon foster an obsession with achieving and maintaining perfect grades to the point where anything that earns less than "A" is a disgusting failure. The lengths students go to in hopes of attaining good grades is maximal, often including the exchange of cash or sexual favors with their superiors for changed grades! It had been postulated that instructors are more likely to raise the grade of an attractive, tearful student than with the same plea whose looks might not be up to the same standard as their peers (Perlmutter, 2004). But why is there an unhealthy fixation on these letters and point values? Why is the siren 's call of the almighty "A" so strong that anything less is a monstrous travesty? On the other end of the spectrum, why is a "D" considered a passing grade when "C" is looked upon as just ok or "average?"…

Percents, points letters, averages. What do all of these have in common? They all are different factors that deal with grading high school students. The school board in Fort Wayne Community School system introduced a new grading policy for all the high schools in the district. They got rid of a traditional zero to 100 scale. This 2012-2013 school year we operate on a twelve point system. I believe that the new grading scale is causing more problems for students instead of helping them.…

However, there are also pros and cons of a number grading system. A positive is, it’s easier for the teacher to record borderline grades like an “A+/B-” with a decimal instead. On the other hand, with a four-point system, students might start obsessing over getting a “4” just like did with getting an “A+”. If that happened there wouldn’t be much of a point of switching over to the number system, essentially solving no problems.…

A rubric can be either holistic or analytical—or a combination of the two. A holistic rubric consists of a single scale—all factors that are to be evaluated are identified together for each level of performance. It might be a checklist or a description of each attainable level of performance. Holistic rubrics are quicker to develop and learn, quicker to score, and quicker to find agreement among various evaluators than are analytical rubrics. Because they produce a single score, they are most effective when the elements being assessed are closely related. However, they do not give as much feedback to students, and so they are more difficult to use as a learning tool than analytical rubrics.…

    Abolishing Grading System

In “A Proposal To Abolish Grading” by Paul Goodman, the author informs the readers about the ideas of nullifying the policy of grading and judging students solely by exams. The writer believes that grading depreciates teaching and creates a bad spirit, leading to cheating and/or plagiarizing. Although majority of the professors agree, some people also question the idea. “How else will the graduate schools, the foundations, the corporations know whom to accept, reward, hire? How will the talent scouts know who to tap?” (line 8-10)Again, Goodman answers, “by testing the applicants, of course.” Dean Whitla easily counters this by proposing Harvard University’s very own, unique admission system. “The objection is ludicrous,” Goodman says. Although the author’s claim is potent, there are elements of th issue to agree and disagree about.…

Industrial Automation is a discipline that includes knowledge and expertise from various branches of engineering including electrical, electronics, chemical, mechanical, communications and more recently computer and software engineering. Automation and control by its very nature demands a cross fertilization of these faculties, a vast and diverse discipline that encompasses machinery, electronics, software, and information systems working together toward a goal. Industries around the world are in the need to make sure process variable measurements such as pressure, temperature level and flow are precise and accurate. It is a fact that are subject to different environmental conditions, such as pressure, heat, dust, radiation, and many more factors that affect its performance this cause the instrument to have drifts making them not absolutely stable at all times. Calibration is the process of comparing measurements. Measurements are taken on two devices the first measurement being that of a known correctness and the second one being a similar measurement, on another device. The device holding the known correctness is referred to as the standard. The second device is commonly known as the test unit, unit under test, test instrument, or any other name given to the device that is being calibrated.…

The activity was done at 9:15 in the morning of July 22, 2015 which was headed by the school disaster risk reduction coordinator. All pupils participated in the drill from pre-school to grade six, including the teachers. The bell rang continuously for about one minute to signify the alarm for the disaster. The participants acted the way were expected to respond. All pupils performed the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” while counting in a minimal voice. As the bell stopped, the pupils went out of their rooms in a single pile. They passed in the designated route going to their respective evacuation areas followed by head counting which was done by the teachers. The assigned rescue team (adviser of each class including some pupils) and first aiders (grade 6 pupils) did their usual routine in case of an accident. The grade 3 adviser was the one who reports the incident and calls the rescue teams from the city and barangay. Fire Drill was also conducted after the earthquake drill. It was participated by the boys of grade 5 and grade 6.nagpasa pasa sila ng baldeng may lamang tubig at Ginawa nila ung ways para maapula ang apoy.…
