Girl Against the Jungle Personal Response
Girl Against the Jungle
In the story Girl Against the Jungle written by Julianne Koepcke (based on a true story), it talks about a girl named Julianne. She lives with her mother in Lima, Peru and was about to go to Pucallpa to celebrate Christmas with her father. They boarded a plane in
Lima. Suddenly, a storm arose from the sky and it started raining heavily upon them.
The right wing of the plane was struck by lightning and was lit by fire. The plane was thrown vertically. The plane started shaking heavily and had a sudden explosion. The plane crashed and Juliane was thrown out into the open air. She lost consciousness. There were moments where I really admired Julianne. Even though she was lost in the
Amazon Jungle, she still remained calm and determined. When she woke up after the explosion, she was alone, she had no despair and had no fear. In the next day, she was badly sunburned and was attacked by many mosquitoes and horse flies, but she didn’t care, she was determined, she continued to think that there will be a way out. She remained calm and was not disheartened by the fact that she was not seen by the plane that just flew past. I was really surprised on what she was thinking. Sometimes i actually wonder how Julianne survives everything. She fell 2 miles off the sky and had injuries. A bone was sticking out from beneath her neck. One of her eyes was swollen She had a bump in a head and a wound in her foot.
She had to walk for nine days nonstop with mosquitoes and horse flies constantly attacking her, but she didn’t give up. She continued to walk and finally she saw few young mens running towards her and rescued her from hell. Throughout the story, Julianne showed lots of determination especially when she was alone and had to walk in the jungle for nine days. Nevertheless, facing with dangerous animals and insects.
