Gibbs Reflective Model In Nursing
Reflective practice enables us to develop our reflective skills which can be used during the learning process, enabling health and social care professionals to improve the quality of care they deliver to patients (Baillie, L., Black, S. and Dr, 2014). According to Dewey (1929), the Educational theorist, he argued that “we do not learn by doing but by doing and realising what came out of what we did“(Baillie et al, 2014. P.264). In addition, (Howartson, J., 2010) emphasises that when one reflects on their practice, it enables them to analyse their experience and consider other explanations for what happened and if there are alternative ways of doing things. Therefore, to enhance reflection in practice, there are key values that underpin nursing. …show more content…
I will be choosing an experience where I have observed positive professional values being implemented by other members of the healthcare team. I will be choosing the Gibbs reflective model to reflect on the situation I observed positive professional values being implemented to provide safe and effective care. The purpose of this, is to enable me to explore values based health care. I will explain and discuss the meaning of professionalism, advocacy and, any legal and ethical aspects associated with the care provided. I will also reflect on my team work peer assessment, looking at the importance of team working and discuss any difficulties we encountered regarding various course-related activities. The reason why she told her I am a student nurse was that should she have questions I may not have answers to, I will refer to my mentor or any other qualified nurse.     In this reflection, I have utilized Gibbs (1988) Reflective cycle. This cyclical model is a recognized framework to assist with a critical reflection on practice. I chose to use this cycle because it will improve my nursing practice continuously, and learning from the experience for better and improved practice. Gibbs (1988) reflective model consists of six stages.     In this essay, I am going to give a structured reflective account on the development of a therapeutic relationship with a client on one of my clinical placements as part of my training as a student nurse.
