Characteristics of the Action Genre
Abstract
With the gaining popularity of many different types of movie genres, Action movies are rising up as well because there are many actors and directors. There are many characteristics that define an action movie and how it should be made. While looking at the movie posters I found some similar features between all three. While looking at the photos I further saw the reasoning behind the similarities. At the end I figured out if the same features are in all other action movies.
Introduction
Action movies have been around, as long as movies were filmed. Thinking of the characteristics of action movies, explosions, loud noises, gun, fast and nice cars, and a lot of violence and blood all come to mind. Also there are actors that people think of, including Sylvester Stallone who is a muscular man who is on all action movies and typically plays the big many figure present in action movies. My objective in this report is to look at posters of the same genre and look for the same aspects and elements that they have in common and then with the objectives to figure out the similar meaning.
Methods
For my first poster I started my search by going into Google and typing in Capitan America. There were a lot of the same posters and then there were a few of different ones but I decided to go with the one that showed up the most, to make sure it was the right one I checked with imdb.com and it was the correct poster used for advertising. The second poster, I researched on Google for the Expendables 2 poster with the same process. I checked imdb.com it was the correct poster, and to further check the posters as the same I went to another movie database called, themoviedb.org which had the same exact poster.
Finally, for the 3rd poster I also used Google images again to look up the poster for GI Joe: Rise of the King Cobra. Chose the one that I have seen before and thought to be the

Motion pictures that properly adhere to form are abundant in sensory, emotive, and thought-provoking elements. While form in any creative medium is made up of a vast number of different components, basic understanding can be met by following five general principles: function, similarity and repetition, difference and variation, development, and unity. In addition, this formal system categorizes a films ' elements as either narrative or stylistic. The film _Scott Pilgrim vs. the World_ is exemplary in its effective use of film form by not only involving its audience, but catering to each of the five principles of form.…

When someone asks you what your favorite movie is, what goes through your mind? When someone asks me that question, I instantly think of specific scenes from my favorite film that induce a strong emotional response. This seems to happen when thinking about any movie I particularly like. What makes these scenes so memorable that they still emit those same emotions when just thinking about them? The answer is mise-en-scene – the visual story that is being told through setting, costumes and makeup, lighting, and staging. Bordwell and Thompson inform us, “Elements of mise-en-scene accentuate action and engage attention…Many of our most vivid memories of movies stem from mise-en-scene” (pg 112). The film Jurassic Park (1993) is a great example of how mise-en-scene can shape our experience of the film through specific components such as setting, lighting, and costuming.…

My first experience watching a Coen brothers’ movie changed how I viewed film. Upon my first viewing of The Big Lebowski, I realized it was much more than a film about a middle aged stoner who lost his rug. I was able to identify different characteristics from a wide range of genres represented in classic films I had seen over the years. After numerous viewings, I could piece together a message the Coen brothers were trying to communicate to their audience through the film’s narrator: “Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes, well, the bear eats you” (The Big Lebowski). This lesson embedded in The Big Lebowski resonated with me because it speaks to the nature of life; the positives and negatives that follow us around as we meander through…

M y learning goal of this paper was to conduct research by finding and evaluating print electronic and other sources. Also needed to generate information and ideas from research, and lastly integrating material sources. When I used what we used to communicate with my group I had to figure out how it fit with Swales characteristics of a discourse community. Its function was to inform each member about what’s going on and what’s happening with the team with our plans. I feel that I have a very little understanding of the research goal. For one appropriately integrate what I have from my sources I don’t feel I can say that I did. There wasn’t much learning rather than just doing what is asked seeing what the six ways Swales define a discourse community trying to hit every point with some edvidence.…

My project was on the West Side Lobsters and my group consisted of myself, Tyler, and Nick. A challenge that we faced was choosing the right pictures to fit the slides. Even though we were able to customize our flag and pick some very good photos, in the end we weren’t able to find the photos we originally intended to use. If I could change anything I think I would have changed my attitude about the whole project. I wasn’t acting very serious when we were doing the project. I also think this reflected on our grade. I also would have taken a bigger part in this project. I only made 3 slides and was assigned to make sure there were no grammical errors and I think I could’ve handled a bigger part in the project. What I really learned from this project is If you don’t act a certain way around your group mates they will assign you a stupid part. I also learned the importants of writing down the password to your email. Write it everywhere. My favorite part of this project was writing our national anthem. I loved how we were able to adapt our anthem to a modern and popular song. This made it easier to find a beat to say our anthem to. I liked how we received jolly ranchers for singing our national anthem in front of the class. It was well worth the embarrassment. My least favorite part of this project was when I couldn’t get my email to work because I didn’t know my password. This is the only negative thing I could think of while doing this project. Doing the actual project was very fun and I have no complaints. Honestly I loved doing this project. I loved presenting in front of the class, working in small groups picked randomly, and most of all I liked working in the air conditioned computer lab on hot days. Over all this was a great project and I hope we can do another project like it in the future.…
