Should university education be free for everyone? In the modern world, education plays a great role in developing people’s knowledge. Higher education imparts special knowledge to students and helps them to hone their skill in their field of interest. Therefore, further education should be provided to university students free of cost. However, in developed countries with a large population and underdeveloped countries which are poor this idea will not be feasible. This essay will argue that higher education should not be free for everyone. Firstly, we will look quality, function and job opportunities from university education to prove this type of education should not be free anyone. In general, the main disadvantage of free higher education is job opportunities. In the recent year, there has been a rapid rise in the number of graduates. However, most students find their jobs which do not need to require the degree. In addition to this, a number of students get some bachelor degree or master degree but they have difficulties to find a job which is suitable for their study. A study by the ONS found that nearly 50% of workers who left university in the past five years are doing jobs which do not require a degree (Pettinger 2015). Furthermore, almost half of recent universities leavers are working in non- graduate jobs, as those with media studies degree fare the worst. According to the Office for National Statistics (2014) found that 47 percent of employment workers who left university within the last five years are performing parts which do not require higher education qualification. This figure is up from 37 percent in 2001, with most of rise occurring since the recession of 2009.
