The fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, is a United States federal holiday honoring the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It proclaimed that the thirteen American colonies deemed themselves a new nation, known as the United States of America, and no longer were to be ruled under the British Empire. However, this national holiday would never have existed if one of the most important wars in history never happened, the Revolutionary War.

On July 4th 2009, we had a family reunion in Port Saint Lucie, Florida for all of us to celebrate together as a family. We went to the downtown fourth of July celebration fair the city had put on. Hundreds of people gathered around and held picnics together and the children had their face painted red white and blue. When it reached night, the city shot off a huge firework display, you could hear the shouts and excitement coming from hundreds of patriotic Americans. The feel of every around created a buzz of excitement and a feeling of proudness came over me to be proud to call myself and American. One other important fourth of July celebration memory I have is on July 4th 2012, spent with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. What made it so special is because of my uncle, he is a now retired Marine Corps Sergeant. He just like other men and women in the United States history fight for the right of American freedom, risking their lives to uphold the American promise. This fourth of July, we spent the day out on an island picnicking and celebrating this glorious day. Once nightfall set upon us we boated out into the middle of the ocean and sat together huddled in blankets watching the huge firework display from inland.
