The growth mindset can use techniques like self-talk to alter mood, emotions, behavior, and performance plus solve problems through an automated response or execution. Self-talk is effective in silencing the critic or the inner voice that attacks and judges you which is a characteristic of the Fixed Mindset. Incorporating self-talk with the Growth Mindset philosophy could help with eliminating the common forms of distorted thinking: catastrophizing, overgeneralization, blaming, mystification, and polarized thinking. The assessment could cover the coach’s basic philosophy, strengths and weaknesses, areas to improve, effective communication, and goal-setting. This could highlight any motivational or confidence issues to resolve before trying to develop someone else. The coach has to first have the growth mindset instilled in himself and “walking the talk” before anyone will accept a different form of thinking. And, if the coach has the growth mindset already flowing naturally, then others would be accustomed to his positive talk.
