In the 1950s, the fashion industry was based mostly around teenagers and young adults. Before this time, adolescents were expected to follow in their parents’ footsteps, but because of the new rebellious era and fashion trends, teenagers were breaking away from this tradition. During this time the economy boosted due to an increase in employment, and parents started to earn more money. This mean they were now able to afford to give their children generous pocket money, leading to an increased buying power and increased sale in the youth clothing industry. Because most trends were now revolved around teenagers, a new freer, loser, laid back style came in, which was a big change to the previous formal trends worn by an older generation.…

Clothing- Since supplies were limited, teenaged females mostly wore wool materials such as long mid calf skirts, suits, and utility clothes. Colors were kept simple, and were more neutral, dark tones also. Squared shoulders and narrow hips were both popular looks in the 40’s. The typical outfit would be sporty-baggy sweaters, knee-length skirts, and bobby socks (high raised socks.) Women wearing pants (or slacks) also started to become more common as well. Showing skin wasn’t accepted as it is in todays society.…
It wouldn’t be hyperbole to say that a fashion revolution occurred in the 70’s (Paul Phipps: 2016). The 70’s were huge with polyester. Bright flamboyant colors were the eye catchers of this time period. Both men and women wore tightfitting pants with bell-bottoms and platform shoes. Eventually the bell-bottomed pants became a normal. The women had a tendency to wear high cut boots with low cut pants to keep the balance. The early 70’s was known as a fun decade. A lot of the styles from this decade were passed on by the late…
Makeup in the 1960s consisted of bright eyeshadows like blue and white with heavy, black eyeliner, and big, bold eyelashes. The hair style for the 60s was long, loose curls with high volumized hair. The fashion style was the “hippy” style. High waisted, knee length, and tight skirts with matching jackets. Towards the end of the 60, the hourglass body figure came back, but it didn’t last long.…
The 1940s and 1950s were times of war. In the 1940s, fabric and other materials were incredibly scarce due to wartime. Fabric had a number of uses in war and as for the public, there were ration cards for a set amount of material one is allowed to purchase. That amount dropped drastically as the war continued. This created shorter skirts than ever and short, blocky jackets (History of 20th Century Women’s Clothing). However, with the war over and the mid-50s approaching, designers had grown tired of the minimalistic clothing during the war and form-fitting clothing came back in with elegantly-made outfits that demanded accessories.…
1960 Decades For my ISP topic, I’ll discuss the major events that happened in nineteen-sixty. The 1960 was upheaval in society, fashion, attitudes and music. It was a time where clothes became ground-breaking, with casual accessories and hairstyles but for some people in the United States, the 1960s were troubling time.…
Creativity instituted a key factor of the style in the 1880s. I for one believe the 80s influenced the fashion industry, evolving into what we have today. When we think of the 80s, we attribute parachute pants, perms, and bright lipstick. The 80s created the idea fads. Never before had a style been so influential through movie stars and artists, a product of women's equality, and long-lasting trends.…
James: For both men and women, Rock n Roll influence the type of clothing that they would wear. The Hippie culture also influenced them to wearing bright colours. For women and young ladies, wearing a dress was the trend. Wearing bright colours such as blue, red, green and yellow to assist them in dancing to the music. Not only just bright colours Bill but also printed patterns like floral, harlequin, stripes and polka dots. High waisted skirts and pants to show off the waist and bust. They kept the shoes quite simple by just wearing black, closed and a low-cut shoe with one or more straps across the foot. Most of them would have short to medium hair in length. Men’s clothing was very simple unlike the woman. Dark colours double breasted suit, plain white shirts, leather…
First of all, fashion was also a big topic in the sixties, and it still is. In The Watsons Go to Birmingham it describes how Joetta dressed; “ She had on a fluffy white skirt, a regular blouse and little white gloves…” Not many people dress like that today. Today, most people wear shorts, fitted clothing, and different types of clothing that would not be accepted in the 60s. Not only…
In the 60’s fashion have many similarities but also many differences to the present. A few very popular fashion items in the 60’s such as baby doll dresses, miniskirts, and hippie dresses are still very popular today. There are many fashion items that are not so popular, one of these are smocks. The 1960’s put forth the emerge of unisex clothing such as denim jeans, which is worn by both male and female and is still very popular today. As we see fashion over time stays the same obviously making some small changes and this trend will probably continue to be the outline of fashion in the future.…
