-have morning practice tuesday, thursday, and friday 4:45-6:30 am
- have Saturday practice 10-12 am
- every practice is set up to work on a specific quality, such as lactate buildup
-practices are very intense and cause me to always be exhausted
-I eat a solid diet to keep consistent in practice
- my diet consists of lots of protein, vegetables and white meat
- I stopped drinking soda to really maximize my potential
- I eat at least 150-175g protein a day
- monday prac is aerobic freestyle, tuesday morning is overload kick, tuesday afternoon is overload swim, wednesday is aerobic IM, Thursday morning is pulling, thursday afternoon is quality swims, Friday morning is breakout sprints, Friday afternoon is technique and breakout …show more content…
sprints, Saturday is either aerobic IM, aerobic free, quality, or FiNA
- I also run and lift weights on my own time, separate from the out of the pool training we do in practice - a typical day for me would be to get up at 4am, eat something small, go to practice, drink a
42g protein shake, go to school very tired, get in a good lunch and also eat 2 bananas to make sure I have enough potassium, finish school, go to practice, drink a protein shake, shower/rest, eat dinner, and start homework at 10
How it has shaped me:
- I have a lot more time management skills because I have to do things in a limited time period
- I’ve became a lot healthier because of my swimming diet
- I have had the chance to work with the best athletes of their sport
-always have something to do, feel like I am doing it with a purpose
-know what it feels like to embrace failure and success
- has made me a hard working person because of the fact that I put so much time into it
- made me very resilient because I have always stayed with the sport even though the past 3 years have been very bad years in my swimming
career
- made me to have a purpose from something other than just academics
- has helped me see things differently because I know what it means to invest so much time and effort into something
- has made me come to really appreciate success because I know all the sacrifice it takes to be great - I don’t go out as much as I use to because I don’t have the time nor the will because swimming is a bigger priority than my social life
-I’ve even sacrificed some of my academic life to pursue swimming
- I average about 4-5 hours of sleep
-however, I still do well in school with this rigorous swim schedule
- I’ve learned to overcome failure because I’ve been dealing with it for the past 3 years
- Going into highschool, I was expected to be a breakout swimmer and become a gold star recruit because I was doing great things in the sport
- I have had three off years, despite all the effort I put in and out of the pool
- I have had to witness many other people’s success who didn’t do nearly as much as me to train for it
-I’ve sacrificed so much but still managed to come up short
- However, I’ve been able to keep a good attitude/mind set throughout this rough period
-even my friends don’t get why I never complain about not being the best when I way more things to get better than most of my competition
- I don’t let roadblocks steer me off my path to reaching my goal
- I see the road to success in swimming as just a straight path leading to success. There many things that hamper me from going in a straight line, but I believe if you work hard and never give up, one day will be your day. If you give up however, no day will be your day
- People say that some swimmers are more talented than others. That is true, but talent doesn’t beat skill. You can’t gain talent, but you can gain skill. Many people tell me that the people who beat me have more talent and that is why I can’t win. I don’t see it like that. I see it as yes they may have more talent in the sport, which helps them to go faster. But, If I work harder, eat better, and think clearer I can win. That Is why I haven’t gave up in all those years.
-I’ve been very close to stopping in the past because the pain of putting in all those hours and extra hours and yet still coming up short is unbearable. Many people do complain about not being the best, but a lot of them do not give it all they got. When actually do put your heart into it and still fail, then thats when It really hurts. I know that If I stop now I’ll never get that feeling of success and will never reach my goals.
- I hate to lose and I never make excuses. If I lose to someone on any given day, at that moment that person was better than me. There is nothing else to it. I never quit because I know that If I keep at it I will get there.
-From my experiences of multiple failures, I’ve managed to become very strong willed and determined to succeed
