I had the opportunity to observe Paige. At the time of the observation, Paige was 2 months and 21 days old. The observation took place in Paige’s nursery at her home. I sat with Paige’s mother on the floor while Paige was on a blanket. Paige’s mother was present during the time of the observation. At the start of the observation, Paige was in the supine position. Paige’s mother indicated that Paige enjoys being in this position and spends a lot of time in the supine position. While in the supine position, Paige’s pelvis was flat on the floor and her left and right legs were semi-flexed. Her heels touched the surface of the blanket. At some points, Paige extended both her left leg and her right leg and then flexed both legs returning them to the original semi flexed position. In this position, Paige extended both her right arm and left arm above her head and then she then flexed both arms returning them to her midline. This sequence of movements appeared a few times while Paige was in the supine position. When there was nothing near her hands, her fingers remained extended. Before Paige’s mother placed Paige in the prone position, she stated that Paige sometimes gets upset when she is put in the prone position. After a few seconds of her mother placing Paige in the prone position Paige started to cry. In the prone position, Paige’s left and right arms were both extended and close to her midline. Paige’s left and right legs were both semi-flexed in this position. Paige extended both of her legs a few times but she quickly flexed them returning them to the semi flexed position. In the prone position, Paige did not raise her head and her head was slightly turned to her right side on the surface of the blanket. Paige did not remain in this position for a long time because her mother thought that she was unhappy in the prone
