Example Of Discipline Essay
Discipline, as a verb, is defined as training (someone) to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience. Using this definition I found two example of discipline in the bible. In the bible we can see the verb disciple being not just spoke but shown to us. In the beginning of the bible it starts out in Genesis where we can see the first example of discipline. This is just the beginning of the lessons of discipline that we are given to learn from. We can see the same verb used by God to redirect our thinking and change our mindset. God is not only is trying to correct us in our wrongs but he genuinely wants to see us grow in our relationship with him. This creates an example of positive discipline that we are a part of everyday. Another place that we can see great discipline is in the life, crucifixion and death of Jesus. After hearing that they would have to leave the garden, they still love God and never stumbled in their love for him. It talks about love and correction in Hebrews 12:16 Steven Lawson wrote about self-discipline in his ministry blog saying
“Let us be clear, if there is no discipline, there is no discipleship. If we do not discipline ourselves, God Himself will discipline us (Heb. 12:5–11). One way or another, there will be discipline in our lives. Given our tendency toward sin, we must discipline ourselves for the purpose of godliness, lest we be disciplined by God.” (Lawson 2013)
This means that because he loves us he will discipline us to be the best that he calls us to. This is also displayed in 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, it says that our light is an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. Everyone is accountable for their own actions. If we are not using self-discipline then God will do the disciplining for us. This holds true for everyone, including
