Essay Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
"College is not a place to go to make money, it's where you learn how to make money." say famous sports journalist Colin Cowherd. For decades people have been debating whether or not the NCAA should pay their college athletes. While people believe that the NCAA is making their money off of basically free labor, people don't realize they're getting free education and multiple benefits for being an athlete.

First, student athletes have advantages over regular students because they receive free education for their athletic ability. Not only do they get 4 years of free college, they receive many other benefits and privileges such as, free dorm and book costs, traveling the United States, they're exposed to the national media, and they are deemed with being an ambassador of their respective university. Regular full time students have none of those opportunities.

The athletes that are most vocal about this topic are football and basketball players. The reason they say this is because they believe they should be rewarded for making it to play Division 1 football/basketball because those sports make up 76% of the money the NCAA makes. Also, if they go to the biggest colleges they would most likely get paid more. So say if there is a 18 year old football recruit deciding between Mississippi State University and the University of Alabama. If he goes to the University of Alabama, he would be put in a position to where he knows he will win a bowl game and get paid the most money. But if he goes to Mississippi State University, he goes to a smaller school in a competitive conference, he would get playing time, but he wouldn't be paid as much money as the University of Alabama
