Essay On Pet Allergies
Pet Allergies and Trips to the Vet
Pet allergies are real. Many people that do not believe it have not watched their beloved pet constantly scratch and become increasingly uncomfortable. They haven’t wondered why their dog is constantly scratching the same spot or not their normal self. While it’s not easy for owners to hear, vets diagnose pet allergies routinely.
What the Families Say
When an animal is suffering from allergies, it is not much different from a human. Their allergies are happening because their bodies see something they have been exposed to as dangerous. When that happens, animals have many of the same reactions as humans. These reactions include:

They don’t like their pets suffering and want the vets to stop it. When these suffering animals are diagnosed with pet allergies, most pet owners are stunned.
What the Vets Say
Vets routinely diagnose animals with pet allergies. It is something that happens every year for some or is constant for others. No matter the timing, there is always an animal suffering with pet allergies.
While having to tell worried owners about pet allergies, vets also have to help them find what is best when it comes to treatments. Animals can’t talk so they can’t tell their owners when they are feeling better. Vets have to prescribe or recommend products to alleviate the suffering for the animal and rely on the feedback from the owner to help determine if it is effective. It’s scary but it’s something that has to be done.
The approach that most vets take when it comes to treating pet allergies depends on the family and the owner. If they don’t want to take medications, there are a number of things that can be used for relief.

Clinical desensitization to allergens is achieved when “minute quantities of the allergen are injected in increasing doses over a prolonged period”(McCance & Huether, 2014, p. 272). The allergy shot would contain just enough allergen to trigger a reaction and an immune response. There is an increase in the dose of allergens in each subcutaneous shot, thus the body is desensitized and immune system develops a tolerance reducing allergic symptoms over time. This occurs in two phases:…
