Essay On Diet Analysis
Analyzing a diet can be very complicated. There are many programs and sources on the internet to give the information needed on the correct amount of food groups and vitamins we need for our bodies. By using the program My Diet Analysis, you are able to gather data containing information from My Plate, macronutrient information, micronutrient information and your actual intake vs your recommended intake on certain food groups. I am also on the fertility diet which is higher in protein, low in carbohydrates, only whole grain and no dairy products. By inputting my information in the MyDiet analysis program I gathered a lot of data that I found intriguing. When I first started my input into the My Diet Analysis program, I assumed I was consuming …show more content…
I consumed .7 cup of the recommended value of three cups and not one cup. I need to add a lot more vegetables within my diet and maybe just little less in protein to have a balance of nutrients. I do not eat close to the recommended value. Even though this was a three day experiment, the data I believed would have been a lot closer. For the Myplate category for fruits, I am very close to the recommended value of two cups daily. I consumed 1.2 cups to the recommend value of three cups. I do not think I need to make a drastic change since I am only a half a cup a way in the fruit portion. The last focus on my plate is my dairy consumption. I am not supposed to have any dairy in my diet so this is going to be the hardest for me to meet the recommendations. Dairy is the main source of calcium (book quote). Dairy is connected with getting enough calcium for our bone strength. Since I do not get enough I can develop bone fragility or osteoporosis (Calcium, 2015). To make up for the nutrients I am losing without having dairy in my diet I can add nutrients such as canned salmon that contains 181mg of calcium in a 3 oz. portion (book page). I need to adjust my diet to make sure I am getting the benefits from each of the MyPlate food groups. Below is the chart collected on my data for MyPlate

My Pyramid was not that shocking, when I saw Grains, fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, and bean intake compared to the recommendation. Personally, it made sense of what I was meeting and what I was missing, yet, have done nothing about it. I love my grains, even though I am a celiac. I do not really follow the guidelines and still chose to eat a lot of grains. This was at 10. Oz and I met the required intake for grains. The vegetables I tend to eat are broccoli, carrots, and from time to time I eat cauliflower. So, I was at 1.2 cups of vegetables compared to the recommended intake of 4.0 cups. I already knew I hardly reach the fruit intake that happened to be zero percent. I have never been a big fruit person, besides eating apples to keep the doctors away. Got milk? Of course, I always drink my milk when I eat all the grains out of the cereal bowl. Thus, I was at 1.5 cups compared to 3.0 cups of the recommended intake. Lastly, meat and beans I was at 5.5 oz and cheated, because I ate at taco bell! Overall, the above groups did not surprise me and did show me how far I still was to reaching the food-list compared to the latest USDA Dietary guidelines.…

No statistically significantly difference in mean energy intake was detected between the first 24-hour recall and the equivalent day in My Meal Mate (an insignificantly different difference of 68 kJ was observed). No statistically significant differences in macronutrients were noted for first day’s measurements. A statistically significant energy intake difference of 441 kJ was noted between the second 24-hour recall and its corresponding day in My Meal Mate. A statistically significant difference in dietary fat intake was also detected among the second day’s measurements. Interestingly, the measurements of other macronutrients did not display a similar trend: no statistically significant differences existed among protein or carbohydrates. No statistically significant difference in energy or macronutrients existed when comparing the average of the two 24-hour recalls against the average quantity of the two corresponding days in My Meal Mate. Similarly, no significant differences existed when comparing the average of two 24-hour recalls against the average of the entire 7 day diary recording in My Meal Mate. Correlations between the two methods were remarkably high. The correlation for the first 24-hour recall was calculated at .77. For the second 24-hour recall, the correlation coefficient was found to be .85. A correlation coefficient of .85 was also found when comparing the average of the two 24-hour recalls and…

    3 Day Diet Analysis

According to my three day diet analysis it seems like my eating habits are poor. Not necessarily that I am consuming too many bad foods but I am not getting the all around nutrients that I need on a daily basis. Sometimes not eating enough. Or ot finding time to eat at all is a big issue in this. Due to my job and the lack of time I have at home it is hard for me to get the nutrients I need on a daily basis. With the target that is shown of six oz. of grains two and a half cups of vegetables, two cups of fruits, two cups of dairy and five and a half oz. of protein foods I fell short in most of the areas that were targeted for me. My biggest two areas of consumption was refined grains and protein.…

Based on the Nutrients Report I created for my “Average Eaten” diet what I normally eat seems to be pretty healthy. I work at a Subway full time so I eat that a LOT which is a fairly healthy place to eat. I try to stay away from junk food and I don’t eat in large portions so I’m a healthy weight for my age and height. However, after analyzing all the food I ate in three days I realized apparently just eating fairly healthy and in moderation isn’t enough. You also have to pay attention to the nutrients you’re ingesting like how much protein or fiber is in your diet and make sure you’re eating enough of it. All the while also making sure you do not eat too much in carbohydrates or fats in the process. My report says that I should eat around 130 g of carbohydrates a day and on average I eat 138 so my status is okay, but I’m sure I don’t eat the same amount every day depending on what I decide to eat. Sometimes I do eat some unhealthy food high in carbohydrates especially during the holidays! So I’ll be sure to be careful not to eat foods like that in excess. My target for dietary fiber should’ve been around 25 g and my average eaten fiber was 8g. So I’m pretty far under where I need to be in that area, which doesn’t surprise me because I know I don’t eat a lot of food that is high in fiber because it doesn’t taste that great. So in the future I will be focusing more on foods that have a good amount of fiber in them and add more of those to my normal diet. I found that a lot of berries are high in fiber content and I love fruits like raspberries and strawberries so it will be easy to add more of those type of foods to my diet. For my target total fats I am in a good range too. It should be about 20-35% calories and my average percent was 31% calories. I do try to stay away from too many fatty foods because I know how bad they are for your health so I’m glad my diet shows that I eat an…

According to MyPyramid plan, I should be consuming six ounces of grains, 2.5 cups of vegetables, 1.5 cups of fruit, three cups of dairy and five ounces of meat and beans. Of those five food groups, I came close to the recommendation for fruit based on the data received from their website with 1.3 cups. Trying to determine if this was accurate based on the food analysis spreadsheet seemed impossible. Within the other food groups, I consumed 4.5 ounces of grains, 1.8 cups of vegetables, 1.5 cups of dairy and 1.3 ounces of meat and beans. I found fruit to be comical since I constantly remind myself I am not eating enough fruit. I thought I would be over in grains, meats and beans and vegetables and low in fruits and dairy. I think I do not consume enough dairy because as I grew up the thought of drinking milk became less interesting as the amount of products on the market grew and I was allowed the choice to have a variety of drinks. I also worry about the amount of fat I consume and thought the amount of milk I drank was directly correlated to the weight I would gain. After reviewing the plan it is obvious, within each of the five food groups I need to increase my…

    Three Day Diet Analysis

To get the correct amount of nutrients, my style of eating would definitely have to be changed. First of all, I should cut down half of my grain intake. Also, while eating grain I should try to eat more whole grains. Only 5% of the grains I consumed were whole grains. Also, with lunch and dinner I should include more vegetables. It would also be a good idea to include some vegetables for snacks. I need to drastically change how much fruit I get. I rarely buy fruit and therefore I do not get the nutrients from fruits that I need. Fruits can also be a great form of snack. I am closer to the amount of dairy I should be getting but still under by a cup. I could choose to drink a glass of milk with dinner instead of the glass of Coke I generally get. I am pretty low with proteins as well. I got .5 oz today and should be getting 5 oz. I generally do not get enough because I eat a lot of pizza and pasta and therefore I do not always get the right amount of protein. I should make sure to include them more in my diet.…

On the website it states that my diet is horrible considering what I have consumed in these 3 days I don’t each much and it shows I need to start eating more than what I have been and doing better than what I have consumed. With the Milk intake I only did 1 cup equivalent this is pretty hard to change since I’m lactose intolerant and can’t handle soy well where it should be 3 cup equivalent. The meat and beans intake was at 3.5 oz which I do not eat meat much so this is not a surprise it’s suppose to be 6oz intake. With the Vegetables this is an easy one I love any kind of vegetable and was short these 3 days I had 2 cups intake when it says I should do 3 cups. Fruit intake was 1 cup when it says 2 cups recommended. Grains intake was 3.5oz recommendation is 7oz. All in all I would say I need to work on something’s but I am proud to say I will be working on this.…

My results from my 3 day recall shocked me slightly, because I didn’t realize how little I ate, but how unhealthy many of my food choices were. I wasn’t in range with my calorie intake for the 3 days. My calorie intake was over 1500, and my recommended calorie intake was a little over 1200. The foods I ate that consisted of the most calories were foods from fast food restaurants, mainly being McDonalds, and foods that were full of carbs. I generally eat a lot of fast food during the week because my schedule is so hectic and nonstop, I don’t have time to indulge in anything else. My calorie intake was higher on Sunday and Tuesday than it was on Monday. My overall calorie intake on Monday was 100.1, Tuesday it was 2312.7 and on Sunday 1258.7. I was a little surprised to see that my calorie intake on Monday was lower than on Sunday, but after reviewing the foods I consumed, it made sense. Out of the 3 days, Monday was the day I consumed the most vegetables, green tea, and water. I typically drink a lot of water and green tea every day, so that wasn’t a surprise, but according to my diet analysis my vegetable…

During the 5 day span I met the calorie requirement of 2850 in daily food intake due to my high activity level. I pretty much had a balanced diet in terms of having each food group represented in my daily intake. I plan on to keeping my muscle mass, so I pretty much had a diet plan before. But going through the calorie tracker in the website made me realize that I was eating too much junk food than intended. It really didn’t have any adverse on my physique due to my early mentioned level of activity but by cutting down on my junk food intake for the week I was recording this log I was able to enjoy good wholesome food, without spending a lot of money in college cafeteria. Not only was I able to do this I was able to feel…
