Concussions are no joking matter; consequently, if it serious enough, the symptoms can stick around you for a lifetime (“Concussions and Football”). Concussions occur all the time during sports and have a huge toll on football players. Nearly 47% of high school concussions occur during football (Big plays, big injuries). They can be the worst type of injury if serious because concussions symptoms can last for a lifetime and could be deadly. If someone gets a concussions then a multitude of symptoms can occur which include but is not limited to dizziness, loss of consciousness, nausea, and temporary memory loss (“Concussions and football”). Doctors suggest sleep and rest is the most important thing you can do while you have a concussion ("Preventing and Treating Concussions in Youth Sports”). Other things they should suggest are avoiding anything electronic and anything that uses a lot of electronics. When using electronics when you have a concussion is a bad idea because it makes your brain hurt and it causes the concussion to last longer and could cause permanent damage to your brain if you repeatedly use it. Using things with too much concentration also causes the brain to hurt and could cause the concussion to last longer ("Preventing and Treating Concussions in Youth Sport”) It is a little far fetched but some doctors suggest that you should stay in what they like to call a cocoon, which means just laying in bed all days no electronics and rest all day with music on low. Concussions cause the dangerous disease CTE that has already claimed the lives of many athletes in the NFL and in other sports. We are doing research on CTE but a lot more needs to be done. If the NFL is going to be safer they need to relinquish all of their information and research on player brain injuries. Some good things are being done to rule changes to make the game safer, but it is still not enough. There is a fine line however between changing rules and changing the game, which the NFL will have to navigate carefully. One of the better answers to these brain injuries is to improve the helmet protecting the head. Many developers have made ingenious new ideas to combat the concussion epidemic in football. It is up to the NFL to adopt the new innovations to the football helmet to drastically improve player safety. A person’s brain is the most important part of the body. It just makes sense to want to protect it as much as possible. As the public becomes more aware of the dangers football has on a player’s brain people may reconsider playing football. If the NFL is going to have a future, they must make their game safer. If people see less players effected by concussions on TV public perception of football will improve. Something clearly needs to be done to combat these serious health problems facing current and past NFL…

When it comes to sports, every player in a team plays a major part. They work together so that they may achieve victory and success. If one player goes down, they all suffer. One of the most common sports-related injuries is a concussion. A concussion is a brain injury characterized by an onset of impairment of cognitive and/or physical functioning, and is caused by a blow to the head, face, or neck, or a blow to the body that causes a sudden jarring of the head (i.e., a helmet to the head, being knocked to the ground). After concussed, a player can be vulnerable to brain damage and can experience physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms. Nevertheless, the majority of players who have received a concussion can fully recover if given enough time to heal. Though this is known as a fact, many people fail to make this a major priority after a player has been concussed. Players who have experienced a concussion should be required to sit out for longer periods of time so it can be assured that said player has completely healed.…
