Writing Assignment 3

In this article, I read about the reason why teenagers want to attend college. According to the students, “The primary reason for going to college is to get training and skills that will lead to a job, and let them make money”. I also learned how white and black college students differ and how they handle everyday life situations. The passage also states how mothers handle the concerns of their kids when they go off to college.
I read a quote that I agreed with that states, “Kids now talk with their parents about their sex lives, drugs, drinking, their classes, their social uncertainties, and other aspects of their lives.”. This is true in this day and time because more parents these days are acting more of a friend to their children rather than an actually being parents. Most parents today are hanging out with their children and their children’s friends instead of playing a more disciplinary role. This causes teenagers to feel more comfortable knowing that their parents are not going to be so judgmental. I also agree with this statement that, “This generation is not very good at a face to face relationship.”
This is true especially in this age group of young people we have dating these days. Most couples always talk to each other either through text, webcam, social media, or email. There’s barely any good type of communication between females and males these days. For example, if people get used to meeting and speaking primarily on a social network, it may be awkward for them when they first speak in person because they haven’t been practicing actually having to go out and talk to people in person, causing their communication skills to lower.
I understand and concur with the article in its entirety. It gave a good outline on digital natives and their customs; it spoke truth about a lot of things that teenagers are facing and dealing with in this day and time. Some points that this article hit on are things that I’m currently

After watching a few commercials from this year’s Super Bowl Football game, the one that caught my eye the most was the 2012 Chevy Silverado Apocalypse. It was humorous, creative, and got the point across to the audience. Compared to the other commercials of this year’s Super Bowl those were the qualities that stuck out more so. The commercial effective with the way it played out and was well set up.…

Donald Halls’ “A Hundred Thousand Straightened Nails” is a symbolic presentation of the decay of New Hampshire the author uses the life of Washington Woodward to show the pointless existence that is experienced in a place as lifeless as New Hampshire. He uses the contrast of his own opinion and the beliefs of Woodward to show how after a while it is impossible to escape a pointless mindset. Washington finds joy in discarded relics such as old nails, and wood, and finds simple joy in simple life. He settled on life, in his lifeless town and spent his life with his animals, his stories, his beliefs and his box of “A Hundred Thousand Straightened Nails.”(Hall)…
