1. What would you include in a brief summary on the history of the modern environmental movement, from the 1960s to the present?…
Earth provides us with many resources to accommodate our needs like food, oil/gas, minerals, and so much more. The problem that all countries seem to face is atmospheric pollution, such as global warming. Global warming is a big priority when it comes to pollution in modern society. In this paper I will bring to your attention the problems we face with global warming, which nonliving/living factors contribute to or are affected by the problem, the effects it has on humans, our current sustainability strategy, my sustainability plan, benefit and challenges of the plan, and required government, societal, and global support.…
Chapter 11 of Environmental Science by William and Mary Ann Cunningham begins with mentioning a case study and it’s about an endangered animal, they mention the owl and how that they are endangered and what they are doing to save them. The chapter then start discussing biodiversity, and then goes on it describes the three types, which are genetics, species and ecological. They also discussed about the threats that exists against biodiversity include habitat destruction, climate change and population growth.…
To begin, one of the most common causes of pollution is from motor vehicles. Most people drive their cars to wherever it is that they need to be. Every time someone drives their car, they are putting pollution into the air and damaging the planet. There are a few ways to reduce the amount of pollution you put in the air and one of those ways is carpooling. This is definitely the most effective way because by carpooling, there is one less car that is putting out pollution and which adds up over time. According to statisticbrain.com there are 85 million gallons of gas saved yearly by carpooling. The only problem is that only 10% of Americans carpool which is not a very good percentage and it needs to grow. In additions, another way to prevent pollution is walking or biking to destinations that aren’t too far away. This way, there is no pollution being put in the air at all which is not only good for the planet but it’s also good for exercise. People pollute the air every day but the amount can easily be reduced.…
I'm passionate about science, specifically the science that revolves around how our planet works. I live in an area that is a geological hot spot, I’m only miles away from Crater Lake and I live near the Cascadia Subduction Zone. I began to learn that earthquakes and natural disasters were a phenomenon that I wanted to learn more about. So I challenged myself by taking 4 and half years worth of science credits. My junior year I took Chemistry and Physics, and my senior year I continued building credit by taking AP Environmental Science. Each year I strived to earn good grades so that I could have an opportunity to continue my education. I want to earn a bachelor's degree in Earth Science and continue on to an advanced degree. My career goal…
1) Why are fossil fuels our most prevalent source of energy today? Why are they considered nonrenewable sources of energy?…
I was able to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting at Calvary Lutheran Parish House in Dover, PA on a Sunday afternoon. The location was easy to find and close to my house. When I arrived, I noticed a group of people smoking near the building and walked over to them and inquired about if I had the right location of the meeting. A gentleman told me to go down the stairs and then I would be in the room that the meeting took place. I walked over to the steps and had to duck my head to keep from hitting my head while walking down the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs there was a small room with rows of chairs and a few chairs around the outside of the rows of chairs.…
1. Suppose that you were engaged in biotechnology, or genetic engineering; what environmental safeguards would you impose on your own research? Are there experiments that would be ethically off-limits for you?…
Explain how changes in habitat can lead to habitat fragmentation. How does this affect the population of animals in that area?…
I honestly do not believe that Introduction to Environmental Science (EVR2001) has had a large impact on my life. However, I can attest to the fact that this class has somewhat broadened my understanding of many current global environmental issues, and has allowed me to gain a new perspective on the way I live my everyday life in relation to the environment, even if I have only made a few minor changes to my daily routine. On the other hand, certain topics that we have discussed in lecture, and especially reflecting on my engagement preparation assignments, have shown me that little things I can do actually do have a big impact on the environment as a whole. The environmental issues that I consider most relevant to my…

With a little coordination from friends, family and coworkers arrangements can be made to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road burning gas and trips taken places by carpooling. While carpooling can be inconvenient at times, if less…
Car pooling, also known as ride-sharing or lift-sharing, can save you big bucks on gas, wear and tear on your vehicle, oil resources and reduce all the associated nasty environmental impact associated with your driving. The benefits of carpooling are many. If you are currently driving every day, you’re going to save money on your commute costs by carpooling. In some cases, depending on the length of your commute and the number of days you don’t drive, the savings can be significant. You’ll endure less stress on your commute. Finally, by driving less you’ll be helping to keep the air clean.…
This website created by the NSA, describes how the American workforce can save gas, money, and time if they carpool. The author describes how carpooling can release stress for commuters, which can allow them to be more productive. More importantly if the workforce starts to carpool, emissions will reduce improving overall air quality.…
An increased public awareness of environmental problems has made ecology a common but often misused word. It is confused with environmental programs and environmental science (see Environment). Although the field is a distinct scientific discipline, ecology does indeed contribute to the study and understanding of environmental problems.…
